Chapter Eight A heavy weight on my chest startled me awake. Sunlight streamed through my windows, and I realized I hadn’t set my alarm the night before. Shoving the twenty-five pound Ferdie off of me, I scrambled out of bed. “Crud! I’m going to be late for work!” I grabbed my cell phone and dialed Wade’s number. “Wade. It’s Phee. I overslept, so I’ll be a few minutes late this morning.” “ For what?” Wade asked. “ For work,” I snapped. I was trying to tug pants on one-handed and wasn’t in the mood for jokes.
