The Cafe

it might be better if we do it somewhere else.’ I told myself as I started to walk through the crowded cafe, my stomach churning unpleasantly at the thought of leaving Aziraphale and me alone together after our last argument. The cafe was packed full of busy customers; The smell of coffee and bacon in the air as people talked and chatted, laughing and drinking drinks. I kept my hood drawn low over my head, the dark color of my jacket helping to hide me from any unwanted attention I might attract. I knew the cafe well enough now,Aziraphale and I would sometimes hang out here when neither of us were feeling too up to it. It was our spot, hidden from the world by thick shelves of books and large windows, providing a lovely view outside and keeping us company on the cold winter nights,But today was different the lively breeze moving the Cucamonga tree outside the sound of birds chirping as i looked outside i could feel the warmth of the sun on my face Then the attendant came to our table to collect our orders "The usual she said while smiling fondly" and without another glance at me she turned and left us alone, giving me no chance to speak, i'm afraid". As soon as the woman's back disappeared through the doors, Aziraphale turned to face me with furrowed brows. “Crowley what’s going on? Are you okay? Is everything alright” he asked, placing one hand on mine. Aziraphale had always been protective of me in that sense even when we were younger, but i’d come to accept this over the years and never felt uncomfortable around him anymore “Yes angel, i’m fine. Just tired” I lied. Aziraphale didn’t believe me but didn’t push me. Instead he reached over and took my free hand in his. “That reminds me, I want to show you something, but first, you should probably eat something. We haven’t eaten in quite some time.” As if in sync the nice looking waitress came with our usual orders smiling sweetly, setting them down in front of us with practiced movements. I looked up at her and smiled politely. She smiled back before turning and walking away “Thank you Aziraphale, really this is amazing” i complimented, taking my fork and spearing one piece from the plate. We sat in companionable silence while i ate, occasionally talking about nothing in particular. Aziraphale tried to make conversation a few times during our meal, asking me what i’ve been up to lately, how my classes are going, how my work is going, etc. then i reminded him of the supreme lord that lives under my bed and asked if we had met before. Aziraphale gave me a funny look. “Of course not, Crowley. Why would he?” I shrugged, ‘He looks like you do so it might not have been that hard for you to run into him…’ we both laughed out heartily " I haven't seen Aziraphale laugh so much after his banishment from heaven and his powers being sealed away by the supreme lord of heaven. It’s nice”. Aziraphale's smile faded into an apologetic look as he continued " Crowley I need to ask you something. About you and Lord Lucifer…“ At this point, all i could do was put down my silverware, turn around and face Aziraphale fully ”What is it Aziraphale?” I asked nervously, i’d been expecting Aziraphale’s reaction, but i didn’t know how exactly he’d react yet. Maybe it was because of the fight, maybe because of my recent behavior… “Well Crowley ,what did lord lucifer offer you that made you leave heaven and become a prince of hell " He paused and i saw him searching my eyes as if trying to gauge if i still had control of myself or not I sighed and turned back towards the window, staring blankly outside. My voice sounded hollow “ He offered me more than just power, he offered my freedom. But I couldn’t take it. Not now”. This was true. It’d been the worst decision of my life to join the demon side. I’d given away my wings to stop being tempted by the devil and my humanity. But as long as I was on the side that wanted me dead, that was who I was and it was who i had stayed. And now that i was back among humans i found that I no longer cared to live like that. I didn't think i ever could again. So i left. And now i had come home...to find that he’d already made arrangements with the supreme lord to make the transition easier on me ”And you too Aziraphale abruptly said "lies , all are lies, Never will the supreme lord and court of heaven forgive us ” His voice wavered for a moment “We betrayed heaven!” he continued, shaking violently in his seat. Suddenly i realized that he was crying, he wasn’t doing a very good job at hiding it. I quickly got up, pulled him into a hug and kissed the top of his head. When they broke apart i wiped away the tears rolling off of his face Aziraphale sniffled " I can’t do this anymore Crowley” He said, his voice wavering. i wrapped my arms tighter around him and stroked his back soothingly "There there angel, Let's go home i said, grabbing our empty plates and moving towards the counter He was right, we betrayed heaven,i did more damage by becoming a prince of darkness,i sighed heavely and paid, Aziraphale was shaken and i could see him reliving the day of his banishment. "I'll find a way" i muttered as we exited the cafe," I'll drive "Aziraphale Mumbled, i refused and said we'll take the subway, he couldn't argue he said with a teary voice " my little prince of darkness " i smiled and we headed for the subway. We took a seat at the end, and as i looked over at him, i noticed that he seemed tense. He was fidgeting constantly, his hands constantly moving towards his waistcoat where his wings used to be. The train ride was spent in tense silence, Aziraphale staring at his own knees and me looking out the window. Aziraphale had his wings cut and sealed away and his halo confiscated His wings were big enough to wrap three people and they were strong enough to lift a train he could transform them into wings of blades during a battle and his halo had the glow of the sun, seeing him like this made me wonder if he had any idea of how powerful he truly was or if he just believed that it was his duty as an angel to obey orders When we finally arrived home Aziraphale went directly to his room, leaving me alone to clean up and change into some comfy clothes. I decided to watch some tv and relax until Aziraphale came back When i returned, he was lying on his bed. With closed eyes. I walked closer, noticing that his breathing was slow and steady. I stood next to the bed quietly observing him as he slept. He didn’t stir. i reached out and gently touched his shoulder, he flinched slightly but didn’t wake up. I smiled softly and moved away, sitting down on the edge of the bed. I watched him sleep for a while, admiring his peaceful expression. Then i heard a soft knock on the door. I jumped up and opened it. There stood a tall figure silhouetted by the light behind them and for a second i thought i was going to hallucinate. "Crowley?". My eyes widened at the familiar deep voice. It was so familiar that i knew for sure it was him “Lucifer? What’re you doing here? i said shocked beyond belief
