CHAPTER 12 The hotel was quiet, but the wind continued to howl and wail, rocking the hotel with its violent bursts and lashing the windows with ice and snow. The hallway was dark, the old overhead fixtures positioned at various points along the ceiling turned off. Eve had a fresh candle she’d found in my nightstand drawer, and after removing the remains of the last one, placed it in the silver holder. With me tagging close behind, she set off for the library.
