CHAPTER 14 Running, that’s what I remember, running as hard and fast as I could, out of that room and back into the dark. I staggered blindly along the hallway until I hit a dead end. Out of breath, I felt my way. My hand closed over a railing, grasped it, and after attempting a test step, I realized there was a set of stairs ahead of me, a small amount of light at the bottom.
