THURSDAY – REWIND
After the not-quite-fight on Wednesday, we met behind the gym before first period.
Not planned.
Just... happened.
I rounded the corner. So did he.
And we froze.
Until I said, “Hey.”
And he said, “Hey.”
That was enough to unlock everything.

We sat on the steps, backpacks still on, not touching but close enough to try again.
“I’m sorry,” I said first.
He blinked. “Wait, I was gonna say that.”
“I overreacted. I got in my head. Devin was annoying, and Ashley—”
“Was also annoying,” he said. “I should’ve shut it down more clearly.”
We both sighed at the same time.
And then we laughed.
Because we were ridiculous.
Because we were us.
“I like you,” I said quietly.
“I like you, too.”
And somehow, just saying it aloud made it real again.
