Chapter 5: The Thirteenth Wife

Vivian's lips curled slightly. "Mariana was among the earliest to follow the master. How could she make such a mistake? Didn't we tell you to serve the master for ten years? Now that child is seven years old, and he will grow up to be half a vampire. Your betrayal came too early. Did you think we wouldn't find out about leaving that child with your sister?" Immediately, Mariana bowed her head to Leonard, her entire being as if drained of soul. "Master, spare my son, please spare him. I'll do anything; I beg you, please, please," she sobbed. Then, another group of people approached, holding a seven-year-old boy. The boy was very cute but had a pale complexion. When he saw Mariana kneeling there and constantly bowing her head, he was immediately frightened and began to cry. "Mariana, what's wrong? Waaah..." The people around them held ten wolves with green eyes. These wolves were tall and looked very fierce. The glint of green in their eyes in the night told people that they had always been raised on raw meat, their wild nature intact, with not a trace of docility after being domesticated. When Mariana heard the boy's voice, her whole body froze. She turned to look at the boy, as if about to pounce on him. Vivian quickly stepped forward and slapped Mariana. Mariana, who had been about to struggle to get up, froze completely. She made no further movement, her lips trembling incessantly, as if overcome by a great panic. Leonard didn't even blink, his voice remaining eerily calm despite the chilling aura emanating from him. Clad in an aura of bloodlust, his demeanor sharply contrasting with his composed tone, he stated, "Since this young boy is a vampire, there's no need for him to survive in this world." The person holding the boy immediately threw him onto the vacant ground to the left. The boy cried out in pain as he hit the ground. Leonard turned his gaze towards the ten wolves, his eyes softening slightly compared to when he faced the humans. "Go deal with that little guy." The ten wolves suddenly broke free from the control of the people holding them, darting towards the boy like lightning. In an instant, blood was spilled, and the semi-grown child was torn apart before he could even gasp for breath. Lillian sat there, her eyes widening in shock. The bloodshed that had haunted her nightmares was now unfolding before her eyes, shredding her fragile nerves with its cruelty. In just fifteen minutes, the ten wolves had devoured the young boy, leaving only a skeleton behind, the air thick with the stench of blood. Lillian realized that the wolves were uncomfortably close to her, close enough that they could leap at her in an instant. The flush that had colored her cheeks from the vodka quickly drained away as she witnessed the gruesome scene. In those fifteen minutes, her frayed nerves gradually eased. She didn't want to die here. Ten years ago, she hadn't died in the deep forest, and she wouldn't let these people kill her now. No, she refused to die. If she died, who would take care of her mother? If she died, who would marry Owen? If she died, would that lifeless face, Reno, inherit the entire estate of the Bourne family? After finishing their meal of human flesh, the ten wolves turned their heads towards the secluded corner where Lillian sat. They strolled over, growling softly, their fur bristling as if issuing a warning to her, urging her to come out and reveal herself. Vivian: "Whoever you are, why don't you come out already?! We spotted you a long time ago. Now our little darling is surrounding you. How long do you plan to sit there and watch?" Lillian remained seated, backed against the lightning rod, her heart beating irregularly. With graceful steps, Vivian's high-heeled boots echoed across the rooftop, each sound striking Lillian's chest like a hammer, almost enough to knock her over. Vivian reached Lillian, grabbed her, and forcefully threw her into the visible range of the public eye. Lillian felt almost shattered by the impact, her head hitting the ground, causing a momentary blankness in her mind. Her sunglasses and hat flew off, and her seaweed-like hair sprawled across the ground as she lay motionless. Returning to Leonard's side, Vivian shook her head gently. "Too weak, poor thing. She saw something she shouldn't have." With that, she moved to break Lillian's neck. Leonard, sensing the scent in the air, had detected it since stepping onto the university campus. It felt strangely familiar, leading him here to execute his culprit and investigate the owner of the scent. He recalled encountering it earlier that morning during the motorcycle ride on the sidewalk. He pondered, had they known each other before? But why couldn't he remember? He just felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. Facing this sudden turn of events, Mariana showed no change in expression, yet another person about to meet their end here. As Vivian's hand rested on Lillian's neck, Leonard spoke up: "Turn her face over." Vivian nodded upon hearing Leonard's words. Instead of immediately breaking the delicate neck, she adjusted her grip on Lillian's collar and lifted her up, positioning her to face Leonard. The eyes of everyone around them involuntarily turned towards Lillian. She looked like a fairy under the moonlight, captivating and delicate, as if made of fragile porcelain. Her gaze seemed a bit hazy, indicating confusion about the situation; her innocent and dazed appearance made one want to embrace and cherish her, yet she also worried about whether her frail body could withstand excessive demands. Leonard stood up from his seat and approached Lillian. He lifted her chin with his hand, tilting her face slightly upward. He leaned in and sniffed. "Have you been drinking?" Lillian rubbed her eyes and still appeared unclear. She looked at Leonard with effort, tilting her head in thought. "I haven't seen you before," she said, then furrowed her brows, burping lightly with a faint smell of alcohol lingering on her breath. "Where am I?" she murmured, half to herself and half to Leonard. "Lillian?" Mariana looked at the intoxicated and confused Lillian. Leonard turned to Mariana. "Do you know her?" Mariana nodded slightly, her face pale with trembling. "She's the most famous girl in our school, the daughter of Fortune Group's chairman, who's been making headlines this year." Leonard looked at the intoxicated little lamb in front of him, lost in thought. "Richard Bourne's daughter? Vivian, is Richard Bourne's daughter the thirteenth wife my parents want me to marry?"
