He took out a small device, that I am aware is called cellphone. From the small device I destinctly heard a small click. He must have taken a photo. What that is, I don´t really know. I know becouse he seems so happy. Slowly I sit down on my heels. and from there put down the kids to the ground. Directly as their small feets hit solid ground, they dash of laughing. I let out a pleased sigh. Mirai go over to Jacob to take a look at the so called photo. She gets a big smile on her soft, thin lips. Her happines are fully visible in her eyes. It is even in the eyes of Jacob. I shake my head baffled. Becouse it was them who wanted to show me this place. I take a look at the kids again. The boys are wrestling in the newly cut grass. getting grass stains on their clothes. The little girl Hanna, she sits in the grass. Infront of her is wildflowers, that Jacob left. I see, that she picks some of them with great care. When she has got enough, she runs back to us. Right up to her mother. Her happy smile, really shine bright. Mirai looks at the flowers. chocking enough her smile got bigger. and greater as she and her doughter sits down on the blanket. They start twine the flowers into crowns. My bright smile, dwindle down a bit at the sight. The scene infront of me, the exact one, I have a memory of. A memory from a time long past. A time of happiness and fulfilment. In that memory it was my lovly Helen and our daughter Frej, who are sitting on the blanket. When a hand got layed on my shoulder, I tore myself from my past. Slow I shake my head. and let out a sigh.
"Dragol, everything good?" Jacob asked worried.
It was then I understood that some tears had left my eyes. "I just remembered my family." With my thumb I dryed it of. "But I am fine, my friend."
"Are you, sure?" he asked low. I let out a sigh and nodded. In my mind I know that I have grieved finished. But their memory will burn bright in my mind. And so will it be untill the day I die. But I can se that he is still worried."Are you?"
"Yes, my friend." I tore my eyes from the mother and daughter. So I looked at Jacob´s worried face. "I have finished grieving my clan and my family." I spoke the truth. and nothing else, right there. Slowly I throwed a glance over my shoulders, at the mainbuilding of the farm. "One place left to check over." I had laced my voice with some dreed.
Jacob followed my gaze with shame in his eyes. And it is right that he feels that. It was his and his parents choice to let this place go to ruin. Their loss really. I think that this place is great, would be great in the right hands or paws if you like. Inside my mind I chuckle a bit. But it is dreedful to go insie that building. But I need to know how bad it is. Even if I have already made my mind up, to stay. I fill my lungs with the grassy air, and huffs it out. I turn around on my heel. My steps are determind. Right behind me is Jacob. I stop right below the six step stairs that lead up to the front porch. None of the porch rails and posts are whole. Even from here I can tell that the roof is broken. Some of the beams are dangerously dipping. I shake my head to the sight. To get safe structure it all needs to be demolished and rebuilt. Careful I take one step up on the stairs. The wood creak in protest of my weight. But it holds. So one more step, and one more. As soon I sat down my foot, I regret it. The creak of the wood sounded loudly, at the same time the wood gave way under my foot. My whole lenght of my leg was through the plank. I hit my upper part of my abdomen on the porch floor. My arms got scraped too. And I would guess that is the state of my leg too.
"Dragol, are you alright?" Jacob asked worried.
I gave no answer. Swearing in my head, I pushed with all muscles of my arms and back to get free. As soon I felt that my leg was out of the hole, I jumped up to the porch floor. Careful I test the flooring. It holds, Yet. I nod, a bit happy for this positiv thing. Then I locked eye with Jacob. "Just som scrapes and bruises."
He nodded. Hesitant he looked at the steps. I heard him sigh, before he followed me up to the porch. I showed him the beams and the roofing. We both were on the same page. That it will be most simple and effective way to fix it is to rebuild it from scratch. I walked to the door. Slow I put my hand on the handle. As I opened the door carefully, a sound made me step to the side. The doorposts were gone, eaten by insects and time. I give Jacob a gaze before I step in to the house, over it´s door. Slow and careful we step throughout the building. On the first floor. Are a kitchen. All of it´s cabinets and drawers need to be replaced. The same with the hardwares as sinks. One thing that made the kitchen great were the big open fire oven. wall to wall with the kitchen is the family room. And in the wall is a fireplace. It is certain that both the fireplace and the oven in the kitchen share the same chimney channel. Beside these two rooms there is a small room that Jacob said was his great grandfather´s office and a bathroom. Chocking enough it was big, with a big fully tiled bath. It is so big that even I can fit in it. Even get a full soak. That thought make me dance in my mind. After we had checked out the first floor, fully we walked up the stairs to the second floor. Both I and Jacob stepped through some of the steps. Four bedrooms were up there and one toilett. I was a bit curius. So I stepped in to the room, I think is the master. I open a door that is in the room. and it reveals a big walkin closet.
"Is this your great grandmothers closet?" I asked loudly, earning a laughter from Jacob.
I opened the door next to the closet. The sight baffled me. Really did. Becouse behind the door was a bathroom. A en-suite. That was not what I would have thought of this place. Baffled I take a great step back. I hear the sound. The sound of a bad omen. Slow I turn to Jacob. And he heard it to. His eyes are big. The sound comes again, stronger and harder. Crack. Crack. "O f**k!" I let out as the floor gave away.
I chrashed down through the floor, isolation and innerroof. With a big bang I landed on my back on the floor of the first floor. Now I don´t swear in my head. I let the wors fly out of my mouth, as I sit slowly up. My right hand massages the back of my head. Both my head and back pulses in pain from the fall. When I look up through the hole, I crashed thru, I realise that the house is high in ceiling. I didn´t react to it when we entered. As I stand up once more, the fact hits me in the head once more. The ceiling is so high, that I can even stretch out my arms over my head. Jacob came soon. He hurried down to me as fast he could.
"Did you brake anything?" he ask bewildered.
I shake my head. "No brakes." I took a deep breath. "Garanteed som very sore muscles, will I have tomorrow." He walkes up to me. I accept his help, just for the role I am playing. "Some nasty deep bruises."
Leaned at him, we walk out of the house. My home.
