Jacobs pov
The room is silent. Except the steady beeping of the monitores. In the air is the smell of disinfection gel. it is heavy, real heavy. This room are of limits for all. Except for the packdoctor, me and my Betas. The cause is the person that are laying on the hard hospital bed. To see this man I have just known a few months, like this. His strong body is heavily bandaged. The wounds are still bleeding strong. How much blood does he have? It is scary. A cold shiver runs thru my spine just thinking about the sight we saw yesterday. That scene really cemented his words in my mind. "You don´t know me, my little friend. And my past!" He was right. So right. I don´t know anything about him. At least not much more, than he is a warrior and he is goodhearted, kind. I sigh and look out the window. In the west, I can still see the aftermatch of the fire. The same fire I and my best warriors rushed to yesterday.
------------------------
Yesterday Afternoon.
Feeling fear, not for me and the pack, we rushed to the Crest homestead. It was I, my betas and ten of my best warriors. I am flanked by them. Proud, to know that they are rushing but not without care of the surroundings. The trees are flashing by. As we are coming closer to the homestead, the sound and smell of great fires comes to us. The smell made even me gag a bit. It was not only of burning lumber and grass. In it was the distinct smell of burning fur and flesh. I hope that I will find Dragol alive. Greatly I regreat what I almost said to him. He was right, his bad feeling were true. So f*****g true. We skidded to a stop as soon we came out of the forest. Some of the warriors missed a step, becouse of the sudden stop of our wolves. As did I. My wolf don´t want to move on. I am chocked, as I take in the damage. The house we had almost rebuild, are a blazing inferno. Even the other two buildings have started to burn. Yet, not as hot as the house. "Can anyone sense, Dragol?"
My comrades response negative. With a small snarl, I stalk forward. My men fan out. I am flanked by the betas. We are ready to fight, in seconds notice if needed be. My wounds doesn´t hurts or stings. The mind are filled with worry, for my friend. No time to feel my wounds, I have. We three stalk in to the fire. Even from a distance, I know and smell that my fur are getting seared. f**k, how can the blaze burn so hot. The shades it throw around, make me tense up. In my throat I can feel bitter bile. Dragol were not near the buildings. But we had seen dead wolves. The state of their bodies, make my wolf want to wince. I do not let it. We continue, still on high alert. Maybe Dragol are there I left him. I am worried and filled with fear of what we will find. "Alpha, Dragol will be fine." Jackson linked me.
Eric are fast to agree to his brother. I know he is strong. And that he has fought wolves before and survived. But that time he had backup of his clan. That fight left him alone in this world. If he died, then he would have past away alone. Without anyone beside him. And that is something I would not even want for my worst enemy. We leave the blaze behind. With the deafening blaze behind us, we stop at the scene in front of us. Tens of wolves lay dead in the field. Slow we stalk forward. Carefully with our step. The stench of death is great and hard. Both me and my wolf, are a bit scared by all of this. I look up and see that my warriors have closed the circle. The earth have been turned into mud. I feel sick, of all blood that has been spilled here. In the midst a body rise. The big build of the person, let us now that it is Dragol. He looks around him, his axe still in hand. I can see that his lips twitch, as he sees me. We all continue to stalk forward, alert if there is any threats left. I doubt it. Before my sight, I see that Dragol shift his grip. His chest are heaving. A roar slip his lips. "Are you, wolves here to finish what these shits started!" His eyes where golden, as he looked around. "I will show you gloryfilled battle."
Suddenly, I remember what he has told me and the betas. "I will fight, and take lives provoked and attacked." Realizing that our stalking, can be assumed as preparing to attack him. I let out a howling command, to show submission. My warriors look at me confused. I growl as I shift. They obey. My Betas join me. Slowly and showing our hands, we start to approach him. He nod. For what I am unsure of. When we are just a few feet from him, his legs buckle. Dragols knees hits the ground with a splash, from the mud. I am really scared now. His clothes are torn. As is his body. The blood flow, freely from the wounds, his body is riddled with. I can even see bone thru the gaping wounds, in his arms and legs. That he hasn´t collapsed yet, is baffeling. Slowly I take in the area around us. Wolves are spread around, over the whole of the old pasture. I can see, wounds from the axe and some from grips and hand to hand combat. Dragol had decapitated, torn limbs and smashed in skulls. One wolf he had penetrated its skull with another wolfs lower hindleg. Just taking in all of it I knew that his threats are no game. If not it is true and he will fullfill it intill the end. A sob was heard, making me throw my head into Dragols direction. In chock I saw tears fall from his eyes. "Once again, I have failed." Is he remembering the death of his clan. "Allmother, I have failed you again." Who is this allmother? His grip on the axe loosened. It fell the small distance to the ground. He streatched out a hand. His face twisted of the pain, he definitely is in. As I followed his hand, my eyes layed their sight on two bodies. The way they are laying, must mean that Dragol put them there. "Allmother!" Dragol roared. "I have payed the tribute!" His fingers touched, my cousins cold dead face. Closing her eyes. Then he did the same for the small boy, not older than my own doughter. The boy must have been my nephew, that I didn´t know about. Dragol tilted his head to the sky. His tears flowing freely. "Allmother, I failed all I know and not known." He must be out of it from the bloodlost. "I have failed you as your gaurdian." His voice so filled with grief and sorrow. "I failed my kin, as their sentinel!" His voice were cracking by the grief. I felt how tears were threatening to fall. "I failed my family as their shield!"
As suddenly as he started to cry, he started to laugh. It scared me, becouse of the harshness and coldness that were in it. He was laughing as a mad man. I gave my betas a shocked expression. Not knowing what I should do. Still laughin he looked at me then at the betas. "Allmother, at least I will die knowing that I have served once more!!!!!!!! As we, your gaurdians, are born for war."
His eyes shut close. The body seemed to relax. It limped down to the ground. We three took the few step up to him. Now I could see the extent of his wounds. A human would have died long ago, from these kinds of wounds. f**k. Even a Wolf, with our great healing properties would have died long ago. In shock and a bit of awe by Dragol, I took a glanze at the scene again. He had fought of atleast sixty wolfs alone, trained killers. Then my gaze returned to Dragols stilled body. I sigh and huf out. "Take the human to the hospital." My warriors came up. Most of them shifted. They put Dragol upon the back of one unshifted wolf. It seemed that my warriors are paying him their respect. For his deeds. I shift back to my wolf form. Glad to leave this slaughter ground behind me. For now atleast. The pack will help rebuilding the homestead. That I will see to.
