A sigh escapes me. In the family room of my cabin I sit. More precise on the big armchair. Even if I have a big steaming cup of tea infront of me, I am leaned back. With the back of my head on the upper part of the armchairs back. My eyes are shut. But I am listening in on my four guests. They are all sleeping in one of the guest rooms I have. For now I have closed of the heat in that room. They were in bad state, when we arrived here. Their bodies almost frozen. They need to get their body heat back slowly. And thats why I closed of the heating. If you reheat a body that have frozen down as much, as theirs, to fast they will get thrown in to chock. With a chans of a deadly consequens to follow. So I have put them in bed, in a colder room. They are covered with a thin blanket.
I lean forward, and take hold of the cup. Of the hot liquid I drink slowly. Doing that so its warmth can spread evenly. And that I can get a good taste of it. Even If I seem to get more relaxed, I am ready to spring in to action. My hearing zoomed in on my four guests. They will survive. That I am certain of. Why? I have treated people with frostbite and and have been frozen down of the weather, before. That are a way to serve my purpose too. Outside of battle and war. As the main purpose of my kin is to protect and save life. One thing that are good is that they are in deep sleep. That will help them recover. But they need to wake up to eat something. And the first thing I will gie them is broth, made of chickenbone. To give it a more filling sensation I will add some heavy cream. Tiredness hits me. Hard it does. Maybe I can get a few hour worth of sleep. So I jump over to the sofa. On it I lay down. I listen in on the four that are sleeping soundly on the second floor. Their breath and heart beats are steady and calm. Yea, I can get some sleep. My eyes shut. And sleep take over.
The smell of food, wake me. I sit up fast. Faster than I thought. As I had forgotten that I was on the sofa, I crashed down on the floor. Swearing in my head, I rose. A giggle thar are smothered, are heard from my kitchen. If I had been a human, I would have got a whiplash injury. So fast had I turned my head in that direction. I step forward slowly, inhaling all scents. Some of the scents are of the broth, that are slowly reheating, fear and nervousness. And of cours of ointment together with blood. The scent of she-wolf is the strongest one.
"I will not hur you." I say softly as I took the corner of the island. I don´t look at her. "Why should I hurt you?" I asked instead as I stir the broth, preventing it from burning. I hear her standing up. Still stirring, I give her a look over my shoulder. She seem so scared. "If I wanted to hurt you or the kids, I would have left you were I found you." She give a silent nod. Knowing that the broth is hot enough I take it of the heat. "Are the kids, still sleeping?" I asked as I pour up a bowl.
"Yes." She said with her head down.
I gave her the bowl. And she gave me a low thank you. She sat down on one of the chairs, I have at the island. She winced, as she sat down. I ache with her. She is so damaged. Almost all of her body is rittled with scars and bruises. All of it told me a clear story of years of mistreatings and abused. As I rubbed in ointment, I made, I checked her body. A elaborated check. All of her has been thru that heathenly treating. They that did that to her, had even used silver and wolfbane. I could smell the faint traces of those on her scars. I would even guess that the children are a produce of some ot the treatments she has been thru. A small whine from her, made me look at her. She pushed the bowl forward. I give her a small smile. "More?" She nods hesitantly. I take up the bowl, and fill it again. I put it infront of her again. "Eat slow, ok." Who has done this to her. She is so small, petite. She are around 4´11 long. Atleast she is eating with appetite. As she finish her second bowl, her chest start to heave faster. Soon the sobs are heard. She cries. Mostly this is the first kindness she has been given in a long time.
"Thanks." She says between sobs.
My heart ache really for the girl. "How old are you?" She sobs, then look up at me. Fear are filled in her eyes. I lift my hands, to show that I don´t want any harm. "You don´t need to answer."
"20." She answer. Her sobbing starts anew. Getting stronger and deeper. "Thanks again." She is so young and broken. "Li..... Li....." I am silent, just smiling warmly at her. Not pressing her at all. "Lia....... Lianna."
Her tears are flowing freely now. "It´s a beutiful name, Lianna." I say slow and varmly to her. I look at the clock. It is still night. "If it is alright, I will pour up some of the broth for the kids to eat." She give me look of shock. Not used to kindness at all, I see. I pour up 2 bowls, and put a towel over them so they will stay varm longer. "For when they wake up." I put the bowls down on a tray.
With a smile I give it to her. She is still crying, when she takes it up to their room. I fill a bowl to myself. But I use a chunk of bread to eat it with. Dipping bread breaks in to the strengthening broth. After finishing my small night snack, I walk up to my room. To get more rest. I don´t get out of my clothes, before laying down on my bed. And I don´t even lay under the quilt. Becouse I want to be ready if Lianna needs my help. So I slept upon the beddings and fully clothed.
Thanks to the first rays of sun light, I woke. I had slept a good sleep. I am possitive that it is becouse that I have done something I am made for, saving life. I streatch my body, as I step out of bed. After streatching I do my morning rutine. After washing my face, I listen. My guests seem to be at sleep. Thats good. I just hope the kids woke up, soon after that Lianna arrived in their room. So they could feed. I was just on my way to leave the room, when I realize that my clothes are a mess. I change quickly, into a blue longarmed shirt and dark blue jeans. I walk out. Thru the corridor up to the guest room. I listen. The small movement I heard, let me know that she was awake. I knock softly. And her voice answered a bit hoarsley, as she just has woken. "Come in."
I open the door slowly. She has sitten up on the bed. Her chestnut brown hair are all over the place. A small smile creap up on my lips. The kids are still sound asleep. "I just want to check in on you."
"Alright." she say, not wanting to look at me.
I had got a small glimpse of her eyes before she turned down her gaze. They were bloodshot and puffy, from her crying. I nod. "I will just check upon the kids." She nod. I walk slowly to the bed. On purpose I did that. As I don´t want to frighten her. Atleast not more than she already is. "Has they eaten?" I asked as I check their temperature. She nods. "Thats good." Their body heat seem to have gotten almost to normal. I scratch the back of my head. And walk over to the reheater. "I will turn up the heat a small bit." She nods in acceptance. After dubbel checking the kids, I left. Lianna is still weak. I sighed at that. She is the kids mother. I could smell it of them. But she didn´t growl at me as I checked up on them. It´s good that she knows that I don´t want to hurt them. Still I am a stranger, and they are in my house. So I would have appraised it if she had done that. One more sigh left me, as I walk down the stair. Just as I stepped in to the kitchen, I heard something outside. What the f**k, is going on outside. A bit irritated of the sound, I walked to the door. I opened the door, as I was stepping inside of my boots. And the first thing I see is a big heavy duty loader. It had plowed the road to the farm. And now are it removing the snowpiles I made, before I rushed of to help Lianna and her kids. I step to the porch steps. The driver look at me and wave. The one who were driving were no other than Jackson. Once again I let out a sigh, and waved back at him. When he drove off, I walked in to make breakfast for me and my guests. Most likely Lianna, as the kids hasn´t healed enough yet. I take out eggs, bacon, cheese and some other things. I fry the bacon. And then I use the fat to make scrambled eggs. Into the eggs I stirred a pinch of parsley. As I started to finish the preparations, putting everything on plates and lay the table, more like the kitchen island, I got a surprise. On the same chair, she had sat on in the night, sits Lianna. She must have a light step. Or I am in worser state than I thought.
