Chapter 42Karen’s driver pulled up outside the Bureau field office. Sheppard stepped out of the car and was barely able to close the door before the driver took off again. Sheppard patted his pockets to make sure nothing was left in the car. After everything was accounted for, he set off for the front door at a jog. He paused briefly as the automatic doors opened, then reasserted his pace through the cavernous lobby. The sun was starting to get low in the sky, casting beams of light across the floor that make the marble tiles shimmer with a gold-like quality as he moved. He adjusted his angle to approach the security check point.
