Chapter 70Sheppard had landed in Denver a little under an hour earlier. The traffic was pretty heavy, but fortunately for Sheppard, he was picked up by an FBI car, and the strobes managed to cut through the traffic pretty effectively. The speeding probably wasn’t necessary, but Sheppard wasn’t about to tell the driver to slow down. They pulled into the Brush Police Department to find the parking lot was almost full. Several police cruisers and a couple of civilian cars populated the parking spaces. Sheppard figured one or both of the civilian cars were used for plain-clothed operations. Sheppard pulled open the front door and was greeted by a uniformed police officer. He had spent almost all his life in Chicago and was accustomed to police departments using civilian workers at reception.
