CHAPTER 2
LUCIA’S POV
She is pregnant. Susan was pregnant with Axel's child.
I don’t remember how it happened, but I know that I was suddenly filled with fury as I marched towards his office. I shoved the door so hard that it slammed against the wall.
Axel sat still like he expected me to come up in a fit of rage.
“Why would you do that to me?” I asked, tears welling up in my eyes.
“You were not fit to be Luna. I cannot have an omega and a traitor’s daughter by my side.”
“Then why did you waste my time? I gave you four years of my life. Why did you let me hope that I could be Luna? Why?!” I shouted as I dropped to my knees, feeling as though my heart was breaking into pieces.
“I’m sorry. I should have told you sooner.” He looked truly sorry.
“Is it true?” I asked him.
“Is what true?” he looked confused.
“Susan, is she truly carrying your child?”
He went completely still.
The silence stretched out. Then he said, very quietly, "Yes."
The room tilted sideways.
"She's pregnant." I heard myself say it out loud. "Susan's pregnant with your child and you didn't think to f*****g tell me?"
"It just happened. We didn’t plan it.”
“Bullshit! You f****d her!” I pointed my fingers at him.
"I did what was necessary for the pack's future."
He wasn't even trying to deny it. Wasn't even pretending this was anything other than exactly what it looked like.
I stared at him.
“How could you even do that? The moon goddess destined us together. You are not supposed to be able to change fate.”
“Well, I did. I have something important to do. Can you leave?” He said like it was a normal Tuesday while my entire world was falling apart.
“How long have you been with her?” I asked as tears fell from my face.
“About a year ago." He answered nonchalantly.
A year. An entire year of him being inside her while I waited. All those nights he said he was with her handling “pack business." All the times he told me I was overthinking he was just lying to me.
Using me while he betrayed me.
"You should have told me."
"You would have left."
"Of course I would have left! You were f*****g someone else!"
"I was doing my duty as Alpha. The pack needs stability. They need an heir. You couldn't provide that, so I found someone who could." He said it was a reasonable option and I should just agree with it.
“Don’t you dare. Don’t you dare make me feel like it was my fault that you cheated. Don’t try to make it feel like it was my shortcomings that made you choose someone else knowing fully well that I am your mate.”
Axel’s expression shifted. “Calm down Lu…”
“Don’t you f*****g tell me to calm down. How long were you planning to string me along? How long were you going to continue to make me a slave for your pack while your newly chosen mate takes credit for it?”
"Making her my luna doesn’t make her my mate. It doesn’t change the fact that you are my mate. You are still my mate and we can make this work.”
This made me laugh.
“What the actual f**k Axel. reject the bond.”
“What?”
“You can’t eat your cake and have it, honey. Reject me now or I will.”
"Lucia, you're upset and you're not thinking straight. Tomorrow we can sit down and discuss …"
"I, Lucia, reject you, Axel Montanio, as my mate."
"Stop." His voice came out strangled. "Lucia, stop, you can't. It would make both of us weak"
“Accept the rejection!” I screamed as my heart constricted and it felt like an unknown force was pulling at it trying to rip it from my chest.
“NO!”
“Then both of us will die.” Blood already started to drip from my nose.
I fell to the ground while Axel dropped off his chair.
“What the f**k Lucia. Why would you do this?” He held on to his chest, his voice not carrying as much weight as it usually would.
“Either you accept the rejection or we would bleed out and by the look of it, we don’t have time,” I whispered starting to feel dizzy.
“I accept! Axel Montanio accepts your rejection.”
“Good.” Suddenly the bond broke and my wolf wailed loudly causing me to clutch my head.
“Sara, please, you need to stop. We would be fine. We would get through this.” I pleaded with her in my mind.
And she suddenly went silent.
I pushed myself up and walked out. Everything hurt but I could stand.
"Lucia, what did you…"
"I'm done."
I walked to the door.
"Wait. Where are you going? Sera…"
"Home," I responded. I didn’t even bother to turn around.
I didn’t feel alright but I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I pulled out my phone and did what I should have done years ago.
My mother’s best friend picked up the second ring.
“Lucia? Is that you?”
“Yes,” I responded in a shaky voice.
I closed my eyes. “I..I am coming home.”
“We’ve been waiting for you. Are you ready to honor your mother's agreement now?” she asked.
“Yes,” I sighed.
“Good, come and we will discuss the arrangements when you arrive.”
“Okay,” I said before I hung up.
I waited and took a deep breath before taking another step forward.
“Mum, I really do hope you were right because I am ready to claim everything that was taken from me and this time, I don’t care what I have to do.”
