Prologue

Jaxon It’s been months since that asshole of a King took Piper and threw the rest of us out of his kingdom. We’ve had no contact because he has gone as far as to block her powers. The only reason I know she’s still alive at this point is because I don’t feel the horrible ache in my chest that werewolves get when their mate dies. Not that it stops me from feeling like I’m dead inside without her. I feel so disconnected from her and it’s killing me. All I want to do is hear that she’s okay, that he hasn’t harmed her in any way because he thinks he can harvest her power. The knock on my office door pulls me out of my head, forcing me to look over and acknowledge who’s on the other side. “Enter.” Dee comes in with Nikko at her side. I can sense their uneasiness right away, they know what I have planned and they don’t like it but it has to be done. I need to make a move and I need to do it now. “Alpha Parker is here.” Nikko informs me. “Do you want me to bring him in?” “Yes.” I nod. “Okay.” Nikko turns and leaves the room, leaving only Dee and I. My eyes shift to her, watching her as I try to tell what’s on her mind. I can see the nervous energy but I can’t read her like Piper could if she were here. I was able to before, but the longer we’ve been separated the weaker my abilities have gotten. “Well, get out with it.” I don’t have time to beat around the bush. “What’s on your mind?” “Are you sure this is a good idea?” Her voice nervously shakes. “What if we’re too late and he’s done something?” Rage immediately surfaces and I can’t hold back my outburst. “We don’t think like that! You know how strong she is, don’t doubt her now!” Dee’s throat bobs as she gulps. “Yes Alpha.” Alpha Parker comes into the room with Nikko following behind him. Nikko shuts the door while Dee moves over to a corner inside of the room and sits down to observe. “So, you want to go after the kingdom?” Alpha Parker raises a brow as he takes a seat in front of my desk. Taking a deep breath, I release it as I sit down in front of him. “Yes. It’s got to be done, it’s the only way I can get her back.” “I understand.” Alpha Parker nods. “But, is this not putting your entire pack at risk to go in so blindly?” “It’s putting them at risk if I don’t.” I firmly believe this. “The longer that Piper is gone the worse our world will fall apart.” Things have gotten bad in our world, all of the packs have slowly begun to turn against each other. I have no doubt that it’s the doing of the King. The darkness in his eyes when we met made it clear his intentions aren’t pure, he wants to rip us apart until only his supporters remain. He’s like the old alpha Dark Moon had, drunk with power and not interested in giving it up. At least that’s the only reason I can think of for him to hold Piper against her will. “Fair enough.” Parker responds. “So when do you want to make the move?” “Tonight.” I swallow. “We need to make our move tonight.”
