The knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts. I took a deep breath, trying to ignore the anxiety tightening in my chest. I glanced at myself one last time in the mirror before opening the door. I wasn’t wearing anything elegant, just a black blouse and fitted pants—comfortable, functional. I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate, but I told myself I didn’t care.
