THE RULES OF THE BLACKWOOD MANSION

583 Words
The first rays of sunlight slipped through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a golden glow across Amelia’s room. She hadn’t slept.Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Ethan lying in the hospital bed, Damien’s unreadable expression, and the cold stare of his grandmother. This place was beautiful but it didn’t feel like home.A soft knock sounded on the door. “Miss Carter?” Mrs. Hughes entered with a polite smile. “Mr. Blackwood has requested your presence in the dining room. Breakfast is served.”Amelia glanced at the clock. Seven o’clock. She quickly freshened up and slipped into one of the elegant dresses that had been left in her wardrobe. It fit perfectly, making her wonder if someone had secretly taken her measurements. When she stepped into the grand dining hall, the room fell silent. Every member of the Blackwood family turned to look at her.At the head of the long table sat Damien’s grandmother, her posture straight and commanding. Beside her was Sophia, who wore a smug smile as she sipped her coffee. Several other relatives exchanged curious glances.Damien entered moments later, dressed in a charcoal-gray suit that made him look every bit the powerful billionaire everyone feared.Without a word, he took his seat. “Sit,” his grandmother ordered.Amelia quietly obeyed.Breakfast had barely begun when the older woman placed her teacup on its saucer. “Miss Carter,” she said, her voice calm but firm, “do you know why the Blackwood family has survived for generations?” Amelia shook her head. “Because we value discipline, loyalty, and reputation above everything else.”Her sharp gaze settled on Amelia. And from today onward, our reputation rests partly in your hands.”The room became unnervingly quiet. “You will follow the rules of this house.”No interviews,no unnecessary outings,no scandals And above all…She paused. You will never forget that the child you carry is the future of the Blackwood family. Amelia swallowed hard. “I understand.” “Do you?” Before Amelia could answer, Sophia let out a soft laugh.Grandmother, don’t expect too much. She’s still adjusting to a life she could only dream about.Amelia lowered her eyes, refusing to react. Damien finally spoke. That’s enough, Sophia.Sophia shrugged. “I’m only telling the truth.”Damien’s gaze hardened.“The truth doesn’t require humiliation. For a brief moment, Amelia looked at him in surprise. He had defended her again. Just then, a butler hurried into the dining room. “Mr. Blackwood…” Damien looked up. “The media is outside the gates.” Everyone at the table stiffened. “What do they want?” his grandmother asked. They’ve learned that a young woman moved into the mansion last night.”Sophia smirked.Well… that didn’t take long.Damelia’s heart sank.“If the reporters find out about the contract…” she whispered. They won’t,Damien replied calmly. He stood from his chair. But someone leaked this information. His icy gaze swept across every face at the table. And when I find out who did it…His voice dropped into a chilling whisper. “They’ll regret it.” The dining room fell silent.Everyone looked at one another.Someone inside Blackwood Mansion had betrayed them. But who? Outside the gates, hidden behind a pair of oversized sunglasses, Vanessa Blackwood lowered the window of her car and smiled. “This is only the beginning.” She picked up her phone and dialed a familiar number. “Keep the reporters busy,” she said. I want Amelia’s first day in that mansion to become her worst nightmare.
