Ugh, that’s the last time I go out to girls’ night with Lucy. How did I even get back home? I don’t recall having that much to drink. Ugh, did I not close my curtains last night; why is the sun shining in my face? What a strange ass dream; maybe I should lay off the werewolf romance novels…
I open my eyes and instead of waking up in my comfy bed I wake up on someone’s lap. I glance upwards and see a very real Logan smirking down at me. My eyes widen. Holy f**k! I quickly sit up and feel a little dizzy.
“Whoa Natalya. Not so fast.” Logan drags me back to his lap only this time he makes me straddle him. I place my hands on his shoulders and gape at him.
“You’re real. It wasn’t a dream…”
Logan chuckles. “Yeah, sweetheart, I’m real. And no, it wasn’t a dream.” He tightens his hold around my hips as he leans towards me, close enough for our foreheads to touch and he peers into my eyes.
I lean away from him and try my best to look around the vehicle. The Escalade is huge and quite roomy; it interior is made entirely of leather. I quickly notice that Jasper is driving. He quickly glances at me in the rear-view mirror but brings his attention back to the road. Its still light out thanks to the days getting longer. My neck starts to get sore, so I turn back to face Logan. My hand goes to my sore neck and that’s when I feel the bumps, from where Logan bit me. My eyes widen and I glare at Logan.
“You marked me.”
Logan, yet again, ensures he has a tight hold around my hips. “You didn’t leave me much of a choice swee—”
“Logan, you marked me without my consent. That’s not okay with me.”
Logan’s nostrils flare and he closes his eyes briefly and takes a couple of deep breaths then opens his eyes and keeps his eyes on me. “As I said, you didn’t leave me much of a choice. You were walking away and my wolf needed to claim you. You’re mine so---”
“I don’t care what your wolf wanted. Marking me without my consent---”
Logan growls and his eyes darken. “Do not interrupt me again, Natalya. You’re really pushing me. We have waited a long time for our mate, but I will not have you disrespect me. I am an Alpha.”
“You may be an Alpha but you’re not my Alpha. Let me go.” I try to move off from Logan’s lap but he’s not having it.
“Natalya.” His tone is warning me to stop testing him, but I’ve had enough of this.
I stare into Logan’s very dark blue eyes. “Logan.” I try to match his warning tone. His nostrils flare and is growling at me.
“Alpha, you don’t want to hurt her. Logan, reign him in.” Jasper tries to calm Logan but it’s not working. I feel Logan’s tight grip on my hips, and I wince at the pain. I push against Logan’s chest, but he continues to growl.
“Luna, you need to submit to him. It’s the only way.”
I scoff at Jasper’s remark. “No, I don’t. He needs to learn I’m not going to be his submissive mate or anything for that matter.”
I scream in pain as his claws rip through my shirt and scrape against my skin.
“s**t, Luna please. You have to.” Jasper pulls over to the side of road and turns around. I try to turn away from Logan but again he wants my full attention on him and not on Jasper.
“Mate. Mine.” My eyes widen at Logan’s much deeper voice.
“Holy s**t. That’s not possible.” Hearing Jasper’s shocked tone doesn’t make me feel any better about this situation. “Luna, submit to him. Please, before he regrets doing anything else.”
I’ve stopped pushing away from Logan but still have my hands placed on his heaving chest. f**k, I just had to go and piss off the Alpha. I sigh and then relax into Logan’s lap; tilting my head to the side showing my neck in submission and remain still. I am breathing heavily both from the pain in my sides and from not knowing what Logan and his wolf are going to do.
Logan leans into me and inhales my scent. He growls appreciatively and starts licking and nibbling at my mark. My breathing picks up and I can’t help but moan softly by his touch. I don’t want to enjoy it, but his touch brings goosebumps to my body. I feel his claws retract and his hands are now on my hips but the pain is too much and I can’t help but whimper. Logan pulls away from me and I notice his eyes are his normal shade of blue. He sniffs the air and looks down at my torn shirt which is now stained with a bit of blood.
“Natalya, I hurt you.” Logan lifts me off his lap and lays me down on the seat next to him and pulls up my shirt to reveal the scratches on my hips. His eyes reveal how torn up he is that he hurt me. I glance over at Jasper, and he can see that Logan isn’t going to hurt me anymore and starts to drive off again. Logan leans down and I can’t help but flinch. “Don’t Natalya. I want to help.”
Logan leans in and starts licking my cuts. I have to try to hold myself back; I am extremely ticklish and having Logan slowly lick at my side isn’t helping the urge to laugh.
I no longer feel any pain as Logan stops licking my sides. He leans away and peers into my eyes. “There, all better.” He sits back up in his seat.
I sit up myself and peer down at my sides. The cuts are sealed and are already scabbed over; I pull my shirt back down and glance at Logan. “So it’s true then. Alpha saliva is able to heal.”
Logan’s eyebrows raise in surprise and he looks at me. “How did you know that?”
I look down and fidget with my fingers in my lap. “I may have read it somewhere.” I feel a finger under my chin and Logan makes my head rise and look at him.
“And where may I ask did you read this information?”
I glance at Jasper who keeps glancing from me to the road. “I read it in a book.”
“What kind of book Natalya?”
I can’t meet Logan’s eyes, so I stare down at my lap, “a werewolf romance novel,” I quietly mumble. I glance up and immediately see Jasper in the rear-view mirror barely able to hold back his smile and then I hear him snort.
“I’m sorry, Luna. I cannot believe that people still read those kinds of books.”
I try my best to glare at Jasper, but I shake my head and groan, putting my head in my hands. For a moment I don’t look but I have to see what his reaction is. I glance up and see Logan with an amused grin on his face staring back at me. Before he says another word, I hold up my hand, “please don’t say it. I don’t wanna hear it.”
Instead of saying anything, Logan takes my hand, kisses it softly and places it on his thigh. He intertwines our fingers and looks at Jasper. “Now Beta, I’m sure you’re not making fun of your Luna, now are you?”
All humor vanishes from Jasper’s face and stares intently on the road ahead of him. “Of course not, Alpha.”
Logan nods his head in approval, “Good.” With our hands still intertwined, I stare out the tinted window to my left and see nothing but trees passing by.
“Are we close to your pack?”
Logan lightly squeezes my fingers, “We still have a bit to go until we get there.”
I look over at Logan, “What’s your pack’s name?”
I notice Logan’s mouth twitch; he can’t seem to hide a faint smile. “I am Alpha of the Northridge Pack.”
“Why Northridge? Does the name hold some kind of meaning?”
“My great great grandfather started the pack, and he came from the North, so he wanted to have something that always reminded him of where he was from.”
“Why didn’t he stay in the North?”
“His home was taken from him. He had to leave and start fresh.” Logan’s voice was stern, and I knew not to push any further.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. It happens unfortunately. We need to keep our distance from humans, so our species remains.”
“I see…So humans can’t know of werewolves, with obvious reasons. Where does that leave me?”
“Natalya, you’re my mate. You’re an exception.”
“Will I become like you, since you marked me?”
“What is this, twenty questions?” One of Logan’s eyebrows raise, and his voice has a hint of amusement. I notice Jasper practically jump in his seat.
“Yes! Absolutely. We need something to pass the time.”
Logan grunts. “Not you. This is between your Alpha and Luna.”
“Aww come on Logan. I wanna play.”
I giggle at Jasper’s childish behaviour. “What are you, twelve?”
Jasper glances at me through the rear-view mirror, “I happen to be ten, thank you very much.”
“Well, I think we have a problem then since I don’t believe ten years olds can drive.”
“I won’t say anything if you won’t, Luna.”
I can’t help but laugh and Jasper joins in as well. I hear Logan growl lowly.
“Stop flirting with my mate.” Logan sounds irritated and the last thing I want is to make Logan’s wolf appear again.
“Hey,“ I place my hand over our joined hands, “we’re not flirting; we’re just having some fun.”
Logan grunts, “Well don’t. You’re only allowed to have fun with me.” Logan’s tone tells me he is talking about another kind of fun. He stares intently at me, and I can’t help but blush and look away from him. I place my left hand back on my lap and slightly cough.
“What’s the matter, Natalya? Something on your mind?” Logan leans into my side and whispers.
“I have no idea what you’re referring to.”
Logan chuckles and leans back in his seat. “Keep telling yourself that, darling.”
“So how old are you?”
Logan answers instead, “I’m thirty-four and Jasper is thirty-two.”
“Okay, and when did you become Alpha?”
“I became Alpha when I was eighteen, but I got my wolf when I turned sixteen.”
I hear Jasper scoff. “Yeah, what a show-off. Had to go and get your wolf early.” Logan and Jasper chuckle at Jasper’s remark.
“So wolves normally get their wolves at eighteen, is that what you mean?”
Logan nods his head in agreement, “Yes, normally our wolves appear on our eighteenth birthday, but mine decided to come early. Not sure why.”
“So you have been waiting for your mate for a long time then.”
Logan squeezes my hand in his, “I have and now that I’ve found you, I’m never letting you go.”
Jasper makes a fake gagging sound, “Get a room.” Logan growls and I can’t help but giggle. “So, Luna, what about you? How old are you?”
“I’m thirty, but I’ll be thirty-one in a couple of months.”
“So, we will be able to celebrate. Nice, I love a good party.” Jasper sounds really excited about having a party.
“Yeah, I guess so.”
Logan leans in and whispers, “And we’ll have our own celebration too.”
I blush and look out the window. “So, um, you’re the Alpha and Jasper is your Beta, do you also have a Gamma?”
Jasper glances in the mirror at me, “wow, maybe I should start reading those books of yours.”
I laugh and shake my head, “some are better than others.”
I glance at Logan and he grins back at me. “Yes, I have a Gamma. He’s currently looking after the pack while Jasper and I are away.”
“Oh, I would think the Beta would stay behind.”
Logan shakes his head, “No, Jasper comes with me whenever I leave our territory.”
“Yeah, Logan would be lost without me.” Jasper smirks.
Logan scoffs at Jasper, “As if. You wouldn’t know how to tie your own shoes without me having to hold your hand.”
“Oh come on Logan. I was four at the time I didn’t know how to tie my shoes.”
I laugh at their silly banter and Logan chuckles along with me. “So the two of you have known each other for a while then huh.”
Logan nods his head, “Oh yes. I’ve known Jasper since he was three years old.”
“I see, so you always knew he was going to be your Beta?”
“Well, actually no.” Logan hesitates and looks at Jasper who has gone quiet. I notice Jasper getting tense and starts gripping the steering wheel tightly. Logan looks back at me and gives me a small sad smile. “It’s not my story to tell.”
I look over at Jasper and see that he’s still tense. I place my hand on his shoulder, “its okay, Jasper. You don’t have to tell me.”
Jasper relaxes slightly, “Thank you Luna but there isn’t really much to share. I wasn’t born in Logan’s pack; he actually found me along with their patrol when I was three years old. I had just passed into their territory. I was covered in dirt and my ragged clothes were stained. I don’t remember much before that. The patrol didn’t take kindly to one of my kind being on their territory but Logan, well, he knew I wasn’t going to do any harm.”
“Your kind? Do you mean you were a rogue?”
“Yes, Luna. I was born a rogue. Logan talked his father into letting me stay in their pack. He agreed only if Logan took responsibility for me; and that’s exactly what he did. He not only became my best friend, but my brother as well.”
My heart swooned at that. “Aww, that’s so sweet but, what about your family? Your parents?”
Jasper sighs, “I don’t remember much about my family…”
“Oh Jasper, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay, Luna. It was a long time ago.”
Logan squeezes my hand and adds, “And besides, we’re your family. That’s all that matters.”
“Of course, Alpha.”
I stare out of my window and can no longer see any light coming through the vast forest, enjoying the comfortable silence; I can’t help but wonder, “when we do get to your pack, what’s expected of me?” I turn my attention to Logan before continuing, “are you going to announce to that pack who I am or…”
Logan smiles, showing his white pearly teeth, “Yes. Once we get to the pack, I will announce I have found my mate and Luna; we will then plan your Luna ceremony.”
I tense for a moment, “so soon?”
“Yes, Natalya. The Luna ceremony will be in two days time; the night of the full moon.”
“But why does it have to be during the full moon? I don’t under---” Before I could finish, I hear a pop sound and Jasper starts to lose control of the vehicle. I feel Logan grab me, pulling himself into me then pushing us against the seat to my left, to protect me from any harm.
“f**k” Jasper tries to gain control of the Escalade which keeps swerving left to right. He manages to get us to the side of the road and parks the vehicle. Logan and Jasper both go rigid and silent; I can’t help but think that they are mindlinking. Not long after, Jasper opens his door and steps out of the vehicle.
“Where is he going?” I can’t help but ask as my heart beats wildly.
“He’s just gone to check what happened. He won’t be long.” Logan tries to reassure me. He looks at me while he still hovers over me. “Are you okay?”
I try to calm my heart and look into Logan’s blue eyes. “I’m fine.”
Logan looks me over, seems to agree that I am not hurt and sits up in his seat. I also sit up and am about to hold Logan’s hand, but he goes stiff for a moment. Jasper must be mindlinking him. Logan’s face turns serious and glances at me, “stay in the vehicle, Natalya. I’ll be right back.”
Before I can respond, Logan is out the door and closes it behind him. I wait a few minutes but neither Logan nor Jaser return. If he thinks I’m just going to sit around, he’s got another thing coming. I open my own door and step outside and the smell of the forest wafts into my face.
