Jasper and I descend the stairs and find Patrick huddled with Peter and Marie, but they stop discussing whatever they are saying as soon as they see us. I am surprised finding them here and hoped that they didn’t hear our little outburst earlier.
“Patrick! Marie! Peter! What brings all of you here?”
“Not that we’re excited to see you, of course.” Jasper can’t help but chime in.
As I look closely, I can see Marie and Peter look at me like I noticed Marie earlier; they both look happy but there is a sadness in their eyes that I can’t seem to fathom.
“Is everything alright?” I ask with concern.
After sharing a quick glance with Marie and Peter, Patrick smiles, “Everything is fine, Nat. How about we take a walk?”
Patrick gestures to the front door, which is open, and Jasper leads us out.
