“Nice to meet you,” he said casually to Clara as he made his exit, Clara swiftly locked her door behind him.
With adrenaline coursing through her veins, Mara swung the fire extinguisher at the intruder in her apartment, her screams echoing through the chaos. “Aw, what the hell?” Grey shouted, trying to shield himself from the onslaught.
“You scared me, Grey, Mara gasped, her chest heaving with exertion.
“What the hell happened here?” Grey demanded, his voice filled with concern as he surveyed the wreckage.
Mara’s words tumbled out in a rush, her exhaustion and panic evident in every syllable. “ Someone took her, and destroyed the place,” she explained, her hand, shaking as she dropped the extinguisher.
With a shaky voice and trembling breath, she continued, “well, this guy is helping me find her,” she gestured towards the door, but her words faltered as she realized the man was no longer there.
“Now I can’t see him either,” Mara concluded, her confusion mounting as she turned towards the kitchen-only to find the man standing there, his presence a stark reminder of the mysteries that surrounded her.
“Jake, an alpha wolf,” the man introduced himself as he stepped into the parlor, his eyes glinting with an otherworldly intensity. In that moment, Mara realized that her world was about to be forever changed by forces beyond her understanding.
“Ahhhh, Grey Louis,” Grey introduced himself to Jake, extending his hand in greeting. “Are you the gatekeeper?” He asked, his tone tinged with curiosity.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Jake replied, his eyes narrowing slightly as he regarded Grey.
Mara’s astonishment was palpable as she watched the exchange unfold. “Wait so you can see him?” She asked Grey, her voice betraying her incredulity as she pointed towards Jake.
“Of course I can see him,” Grey affirmed, turning to acknowledge Jake’s presence.
Mara’s mind spun with confusion, her brow furrowed as she attempted to grasp the situation. “No,no,no, this is so confusing,” she murmured, her finger tracing invisible patterns in the air as she tried to make sense of it all.
Meanwhile Jake moved towards the cabinet area, his movements purposefully as he suddenly bent down there and tried to retrieve a photograph from the floor. “Who is this?” He inquired, his gaze penetrating as he held up the image for Mara to see.
“That’s my dad,” Mara replied softly, as her gaze fell upon the photograph of her father, her eyes softened with a deep profound sadness. Her lips quivered slightly, betraying the pain that lingered in her heart. A gentle sigh escaped her lips, laden with the weight of memories long.
In that moment, her sorrow was etched upon her face, a poignant reminder of the loss she had endured. “He died when I was seven years old," she added.
As Jake straightened up, Mara couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease washed over her. There is something about his demeanor that unsettled her, something hidden beneath the surface.
With a sinking feeling, she watched as he continued his search of the house, each step bringing them closer to the truth that lay hidden in the shadow.
In the dimly lit of the room, Grey’s voice sliced through the air, laden with concern. “So wait, your mother is missing and you’re hanging out with an outsider with unnatural fur wanna be God forsaken weirdo?” His words hung heavily in the air punctuated by the weight of disbelief.
Mara’s amber eyes flickered with a mixture of frustration and determination as she met Grey’s gaze. “I didn’t come across him,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper as she attempted to keep their conversation discreet.
Grey’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Wait what ? He pressed, his curiosity piqued by Mara’s response. “ I know it’s ridiculous but for real, he found me,” Mara said.
Before Grey could delve further into Mara’s revelation, their clandestine conversation was abruptly interrupted by unexpected presences of Jake. Jake had a downturn mouth, his brow furrowed, his eyes lost its sparkle, he suddenly appeared dull due to what Grey was saying about him.
“Check this out,” Jake interjected, pointing a phone and a note that he found under the phone towards them with urgency. And for the record my fur is naturally blonde. He added as he leaned on the wall giving Mara a seductive smile.
She walked towards the mirror that was half broken due to what happened.
Mara's heart pounded as she stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the necklace her mother had given to her. It was an heirloom passed down through generations, but Mara never imagined it held such significance until now.
She glanced around the apartment, the wall adorned with the photographs of her and her mother, memories frozen in time. But there was a shadow lurking beneath the surface, a secret that Mara couldn’t shake no matter how hard she tried.
She walked back to where Grey was, she suddenly felt like she was walking through a fog, disconnected from the world around her. She went and stood with Grey as he handed the note he got from Jack, “ this is for you.”
As she opened it, Mara’s hand trembled, her heart pounding in her chest,it was a letter written in her mother’s handwriting, but the words sent a chill down Mara’s spine.
“My dearest Mara,” the letter began, and Mara felt tears prick at the corner of her eyes. She hadn’t heard from her since she last spoke to her on the phone. And the thought of reaching out filled Mara with a mixture of hope and dread as she remembered that her mother had been trying to tell her something.
As she reads the words on the page, Mara’s world tilts on its axis, the truth crashing down around her like a tidal wave.she was not who she thought she was, she was something more, something………supernatural.
With trembling hands, mats clutched the letter to her chest, her mind reeling with the implications of her new found identity. She had always felt different, like she didn’t quite belong, but now she knows why. As Mara kooked up to Jack’, she realized her life would never be the same again.
She was no longer just Mara Blake- she was Mara, daughter of a werewolf, destined for a fate she could never have imagined.
