Chapter Eleven
Before the chief security officer
Bolakale and his boys were presented before the university security department. It was not difficult getting the remaining six from the hostel. As a matter of fact they were waiting to be called.
The security of the university attended to the divisional police officer. The seven of them were now around.
The divisional police officer paraded them before him. And briefed him of his findings that they were the ones who kidnapped professor Gbade's son.
From the look of things, they don't seemed to understand the legal implications of their actions. Divisional police officer said.
How did you get them? The chief security officer asked.
My boys were smarter than them. The divisional police officer said,
the proceed, from the ransom has been paid into the university cover, on behalf of professor Gbade.
Their leader Bolakale, confessed that they were not after his money, that they just wanted to teach him a lesson.
Bolakale was asked if he was sorry for his actions or not? He said I regret nothing, I feel happy doing what I did. If no one fight for them they will suffer unjustly.
This has been the trend, since I gained admission. And it went on unchecked. The university authority don't seemed to know what was happening.
The student union authority seems to be afraid to speak in protest of the injustice. Most of them were sponsored candidates to various post in the Union. So how do you expect them to fight the finger that fed them or the hand that took them?
The chief security officer demanded that their parents should be invited to come and hear what their children and wards had done.
The divisional police officer had no objection to this, so their parents were asked to report at the university as a matter of urgency.
Within an hour, their parents reported at the chief security officer's office and saw their children being made to sit on bare floor.
Though not handcuffed but it sounded ridiculous and embarrassing that they were paraded as criminals.
Bolakale's dad, when had you turned a freedom fighter?
When had you turned a kidnapper?
When have you turned a new person entirely?
You should know the legal implication of your actions. I only pray you are not jailed. He turned to the other six and said as young as you all look. Why did you go into crime?
Each of their parents spoke of their dismay and disapproval of their actions.
It's most likely that they are charged to the court of law for criminal charges. This may earn each of them a minimum of two years imprisonment.
It's going to be very sad. What happens to their academics?
They'll forever carry the blemish of having been convicted for criminal offenses. It means they can't compete for any elective post, you can't hold any high position in any government establishment.
You may never meet up with your mates, even when you return from the jail term. Bolakale's dad said in tears.
The other parents too stood up to condemn their actions one after the other. While the seven of them were speechless with their heads bowed down.
The divisional police officer called the commissioner of police to seek his advice on what next to be done concerning the case on ground.
The commissioner of police asked if anyone of them was up to eighteen years of age. The divisional police officer replied no.
Nevertheless, that will not stop them from appearing before the court of law, because of the criminality involved.
How soon can they appear in court? The commissioner of police said as soon as possible. If you can make it tomorrow, fine.
Keep them in your custody to ensure their safety.
Yes sir, the divisional police officer said and hung up.
Lanre came into the premises while the divisonal police was making a call to the commissioner of police. Lanre spotted Bolakale's dad and quickly went to greet him.
