Hard Nights

As night fell upon her, she bolts her head back and forth. Running down the street she can hear the sound of her own breath and she can feel the beat of her heart throughout her whole body. There, she thinks, as she looks over at a big playground about 100 feet in front of her. She sprints towards it with every bit of energy that she has left.         She goes towards a twisted slide and crawls up it so she is about halfway inside it. She covers her mouth and tries to calm her breathing, she is afraid that it still is not enough for him not to hear it. In the distance, she can hear footsteps. They come closer to her and in this time she begins to tear up. Thinking of any reason why this would happen to her.          The wind picks up and there is no longer a distinction between the sound of wind and the sound of footsteps. "Where the hell did you go?" she hears, it sounds like it is only a couple feet away. Tears start rushing down her face even faster than before. It is starting to get even harder for her to conceal the sound of her breath and the sound of muffled crying.          Suddenly everything stops. There is no sound of footprints or wind. She thinks she is in the clear but she decides to stay in the slide for a little longer just to be sure. A few minutes go by. Her breathing and her heart calm down and her tears stop rolling out of her eyes.            She slowly crawls out of the slide being as quiet as she possibly can. With extreme caution, she takes her first step out of the slide, poking her head out to see if she can see anything but she can not see anything that alarms her. She begins to walk all the way out, still being cautious. She takes several steps, then she stops with pure terror on her face. The last thing she will ever hear is her own scream for help.           The next morning comes upon the city of New  Orleans. Parents go to work. Nannys go to their jobs of watching children. Some watch TV all day long while others go to the park. Tanya takes Alex, who is 6 years old, to the park. As they walk into the park, Tanya sees blood. She automatically assumes it was from a child who fell off of the slide and skinned their knee. But as they walk farther into the park, more blood appears in the woodchips. She begins to get concerned but continues forward anyway. Alex screams, looking down at the ground. Tanya goes running straight to him and that is when she sees her. Blood covered, stab wounds all over her body. Tanya grabs Alex running away from the body, with Alex in one arm and her phone in her other hand. She dials 911, reporting a dead body in Cambell park. She takes Alex all the way back to his house, telling him that it is okay. And apologizing for taking him there.          15 minutes later cops show up all over the place. The cops rope off the park, making a crime scene of the entire thing. No one has seen the park be this hectic before. People who walked past were scared, they walked watching
