“Derek, Derek, Derek,” I was calling his name over and over, but he didn’t listen. He kept on smiling at mom when she used to tickle him, but as people came rushing in, taking the baby Derek from her arms, I could no longer feel anything but the ache in my heart at the sight of mom crying about her baby not being held.
