Chapter 17:
Marcus was arrested, taken into custody for good. His network was dismantled, and all those who had helped him evade justice were apprehended as well. The threat that had loomed over the Williams family for so long was finally over.
In the days following Marcus’s capture, Davis and his family slowly began to heal. The constant fear and tension that had defined their lives for so long began to fade. Emily could finally smile without worry, and the children laughed freely again.
One evening, as the sun set over their home, Davis sat with Emily on the porch, watching Clark, Lewis, and Lily play in the yard. The air was warm, peaceful.
“You did it,” Emily said softly, resting her head on his shoulder. “You kept your promise. It’s over.”
Davis smiled, a sense of relief washing over him. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”
Emily squeezed his hand. “We’re safe now. That’s all that matters.”
For the first time in what felt like forever, Davis felt truly at peace. The nightmare was over, and his family was safe. There were still scars, of course, but together, they had faced the darkness—and won.
As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, Davis looked around at his family, his heart full. The future was finally theirs to enjoy.
