If he's having such a hard time telling it, it must be something special and important.
"Okay, as humans believe in a god, we have the Moon Goddess. It's not so much a belief, werewolves are created by her, and she watches over us." He begins his story. He looks at me and I nod that I understand so he continues. "She is a higher power and only shows herself when it is really necessary. When a wolf is of age, she gives them their wolf. To ensure that our species survive, she gives each wolf the perfect partner, our mate, as we call it. You can compare it to what humans call a soul mate. Mates are made for each other by the Moon Goddess." He continues. "Do you still get it?" He asks and I nod.
"There are some things the Moon Goddess has added to make mates irresistible to each other, but I'll get to that later." He continues. "So 2 wolves, chosen by the Moon Goddess, who are perfect for each other. A wolf alone is not nearly as strong as a wolf that has found its mate and is fully mated. In almost all cases, mates who have found each other, stay together for the rest of their lives." He says.
It almost sounds too good to be true. Someone made, just for you? Sounds romantic. "Almost all cases? It sounds great, why wouldn't someone want that, someone who is made just for you?" I ask.
"Sometimes the Moon Goddess matches 2 wolves who don't want to accept each other. For whatever reason. It's not unusual. For example, the popular schoolboy bullies the school misfit, and they later turn out to be mates. The girl can then choose to reject him because she doesn't want to live with someone who treated her like that." He explains. I think I know where this is going, although I have a hard time imagining him as the high school bully.
"Is that what happened? Did your mate reject you because you were her bully?" I ask cautiously.
He gives me a small smile. "She rejected me yes, but not because I was the bully. She didn't want me because I'm just an Omega." He says. "I'm sorry." I say.
"But, to come back to why I moved." He continues his explanation. "Because mates are made for each other, and share a bond, you must officially reject each other. This must be done by both, otherwise, the bond is not broken. Breaking the bond is painful, and if you are not strong enough, you can suffer from that for a long time. When she rejected me, I didn't immediately accept this." He says. "The world trip?" I guess and he nods.
"When I came back I hoped she had changed her mind and would take the rejection back. Unfortunately, this was not the case. She still goes after the wolves with a high rank. Although I have accepted her rejection, I didn't want to witness that everyday day." He ends his story.
I feel sorry for him, who does such a thing? "That sounds awful." Is all I can say.
"It's okay, I'm over the pain now." He says to reassure me.
"But if your mate rejected you, does that mean you have to be single for the rest of your life?" I ask. "If you don't mind me asking." I say quickly after when I realize that he might not want to tell me about his further love life.
"No, I don't have to stay alone." He answers with a smile. "Because it sometimes also happens that someone does not meet his mate, because he or she belongs to another pack, for example, you can also choose a mate yourself. We call it a chosen mate. If chosen mates are fully mated, they also have a special bond, but not as strong as fated mates." He says.
"Oh so actually that's just like a normal relationship with people? Without that bond." I ask.
"Yes, you could see it that way. And sometimes it happens that a wolf gets a second chance mate. After a rejection or if he or she has lost his or her mate. But that's rare." He says. "But when that happens, that bond is just as strong, maybe even stronger, because they're meant to be." He adds.
"Okay I think i get it, then I hope for you that you meet your second chance mate." I say. He looks at me, and his eyes turn black for a moment.
"Yes, me too." He says, his tone makes it seem like he wants to say more so I stay quiet. I must have imagined it, I think to myself when he doesn't say anything.
"You keep talking about fully mated, what do you mean by that?" I ask.
"Ehm.. eh.." He stammers, he doesn't know where to look. "What? Just say it." I say laughing, what could be so bad that he has trouble saying it?
"Well... To complete the mating process, you have to mark each other... during the act..." He finally says. "Marking? The act?" I ask ignorantly. "Yeah, you know? s*x?" He says a little awkwardly.
"Oh.. yes" I say a little embarrassed. I feel myself blushing for the umpteenth time. I don't know what's bothering me, but whenever I'm around him I blush at the slightest thing. Normally I'm not like that at all. But then again, normally I'm never really alone with a guy, and in most cases, it's for Stacy or Lola anyway.
Come to think of it, I feel much more comfortable with Mr. Adams, I mean Elliot, than with other guys. But that will be because he is a teacher, not dating material.
"And what is that marking?" I ask. "To show others that you have a mate, you wear each other's marks. You give them to each other by biting each other during sex." He says as he looks at me.
I see his eyes wander to my neck. "Wolves have a special place on their neck, where the mark goes." He slowly runs his fingers over my neck.
I try not to show that it's a nice feeling. I feel myself getting wet from underneath with his touch and I lightly bite my lip to suppress a moan. When he stops I look at him, his eyes are black again and he has a strange look in his eyes.
"I think it's better if you go." he suddenly says. "Huh, why?" I respond disappointed.
"Wolves are quite s****l, and right now I'm having trouble keeping my wolf Thunder under control." He says and stands up. "Oh, yes okay. See you at school tomorrow then." I say hesitantly and put my hoodie back on.
I walk home a little disappointed.
Elliot Pov.
"Why didn't you tell her?!" Thunder says annoyed as I watch her as she walks away.
"I don't want to scare her off." I answer.
"Oh come on man! She feels the mate bond too, you know that." He protests. He's right, I've seen how she looks at me and responds to my touch. She just doesn't know yet that it's because of the mate bond. I'm glad she didn't ask how you notice someone is your mate, otherwise, she would have figured it out right away.
"And what do you think will happen if she doesn't know it when she gets her wolf? She'll be scared to death when she sees us at school. You're a real dumbass sometimes you know that." He says, shutting me out before I can answer.
And again I know he's right. But for now, it was better to send her away. It was wrong of me to touch her like that. I know it was just her neck, but all this talking about mates and mating. I could not resist it. And when I smelled her arousal I struggled to hold back, to stop Thunder. I would have preferred to tell her right away that she is my mate, but that didn't seem like a good idea. She's still processing that she's a wolf and just learned a few minutes about the existence of mates. To immediately overwhelm her with the fact that I'm her mate, yeah no, not a good idea.
I decide to tell her tomorrow. That way, she has a day to get used to the idea. Because Thunder has a point. There's no telling what she'll do when she finds out at school that I'm her mate.
If she isn't able to control her wolf, she'll run at me at school. I don't think the management will be happy with that, a teacher and student making out in the middle of a class. Because I'm sure if that happens, I can't stop Thunder.
On the way home, I try to figure out how to tell her. Should I also tell her parents already know? That's probably why they're reacting the way they do. I'm not quite sure what to do. Maybe I should ask my Alpha for help. Maybe he knows her parents too.
