The message had been clear: the enemy was no longer hiding.
Alex’s instincts screamed at him to leave the city, cancel meetings, and disappear until the danger passed. But this was his home, his empire. He would not run. Instead, he would set the stage for the final confrontation.
“Elena,” he said that morning, his tone resolute, “tonight, I’m going to end this. I need you to stay somewhere safe.” Is this the Boss's instinct or a lover's instinct talking, she thought to herself, but quickly snapped out of it.
She shook her head firmly. “You’re not doing this without me. I’ve come this far. I’m not leaving you now.” She said almost immediately without so much thought over it.
He wanted to argue, but the fire in her eyes silenced him. She wasn’t just a maid anymore, she was his ally, his protector, and the woman he loved. He walked up to her and said, I really feel like kissing you right now while holding her tightly to himself by the waist. “What’s stopping you, Mr Alex?” she said, looking straight into his eyes with the burning desire to kiss him too, leaning towards her for the much-desired kiss. This moment was interrupted by a staff member coming in to inform the Boss of his readiness to take his orders as requested by the Boss.
The Setup
That night, Alex hosted a small, “private” meeting in his office on the top floor of Pierce Industries. The invite had been intentionally extended to Nathan and their mother under the guise of discussing the company’s future.
Hidden security cameras were installed. Guards waited discreetly nearby. Elena, under the pretense of serving drinks, stayed close, with every sense in her alert.
Nathan arrived with a sly smile. Their mother trailed behind, her expression unreadable. “Brother,” Nathan said smoothly, “I’m surprised you wanted to meet after… everything.” Bearing in mind his brother's unconfirmed suspicion.
Alex kept his tone calm. “We need to talk about trust, Nathan. About loyalty.”
Nathan chuckled. “Loyalty? That’s rich coming from you.”
Their mother interjected with a sigh, “Can we not do this tonight? This family has suffered enough.”
Alex’s gaze hardened. “I know you’ve been plotting against me, Nathan. I know you paid that man at the gala. I have evidence.”
Nathan’s smile faltered. “You’re bluffing.”
“I’m not,” Alex said coldly, pressing a button that displayed footage on the office screen: recordings of Nathan’s calls and a financial transaction trail linking him to the hired assassin. “It’s over Nathan.” He said with fuming anger in his eyes.
Nathan’s mask shattered. With a roar, he lunged forward, pulling a concealed knife from his jacket. Elena screamed, stepping in between them as security rushed in. The blade grazed her arm as Nathan swung the knife, intending to harm Alex grievously, before Alex tackled Nathan to the ground.
Chaos erupted. Guards restrained Nathan as he thrashed and shouted, “This was supposed to be mine! The company! The fortune! Everything, I took mum away from you, I am better than you, you should die lonely and poor, it is not over yet, do you think you are better than me? Because your father was rich? I hate you, Alex, mum … mum… don’t you dare let them take me into custody, I am your only child, MUM…!”
Their mother stood frozen, tears welling in her eyes. Alex looked at her with a mixture of hurt, fiery burning eyes filled with disbelief and realization of her decision to choose her affair child over him, over and over again, even after all his years of living a lonely life. “You knew,” he said quietly. “You let this happen.” “You decided to throw me into my death yet again” because she had abandoned him on a lonely street a long time ago when he went to see her as a young child but she didn’t pay any attention to his crying and wailing but yet he chose to forgive and accepted she and her wicked and ungrateful child into his life..
He went further to ask her on his knees, in tears, in the presence of everyone who saw him as a cold person and an emotionless man, Are you even my mother? Do I really deserve this for loving you and craving your undivided attention as my mother?, Still in tears, he quickly picked himself up at the sudden realization that Elena was still in pain beside him, and they left for the hospital. She couldn’t meet his gaze as she was literally disappointed in herself and her actions because she has always thought Alex was a mistake from her first marriage to a poor man whom she left for Nathan’s father who seemed rich but little did she know he was operating on debts which he died and left her to pay all the debts. Hence, she lets Nathan’s plot fly without any objections from her.
Nathan was dragged away, cursing, while the police waited downstairs and was later remanded in prison.
For the first time in years, the mansion and the company were free of his poisonous shadow.
Healing and New Beginnings
The following days were a blur of police reports, media coverage, and restructuring. The betrayal had cut deep, but Alex emerged stronger. Nathan’s arrest made headlines, and the mother quietly retreated from the public eye, her silence speaking volumes.
Elena’s injury was minor, but Alex refused to leave her side. Every night, he stayed with her, holding her hand, his walls completely broken down.
One evening, as they stood on the balcony overlooking the glittering city, Alex finally said the words that had been burning inside him.
“Elena, you came into my life as a maid. You stayed as my protector, you made this lonely house bright and filled with love, and you’ve become so much more than just a maid to me. I like how I feel about us, I like how you make me feel, I feel so vulnerable when I am with you, I feel safe, I feel like a baby, Elena, I am crazy about you, and I just want to say to you, looking deeply into her soul, that I love you… I love you, Elena, and I mean every word of this phrase. I want you to always remember that you have my heart now in your hands please don’t break it.”
Tears glistened in her eyes as she smiled softly, “Alex, I loved you even before I got to know you. I already decided that you are the one for me even before I realized it was love knocking on the door of my heart. “I love you too, Alex, and I will always be here with you, you won’t ever feel lonely ever again. This I promise you, my Love, oh! Sorry, my Boss, “ he said, giggling.
He kissed her deeply with all his guards and walls down at that moment, the city lights shimmering around them like stars. For the first time, the cold walls of luxury were warm, because love had finally found its home there.
Weeks later, Elena no longer wore the uniform of a maid. She walked beside Alex as his personal Assistant and partner, their bond unbreakable.
