In these parts of the woods, there are a few golden rules to any werewolf pack. 1) Mothers protect their kin. 2) Relationships with humans can get you banished 3) You follow your Alpha even if it means death. Veronica Smith a spunky seventeen year old knew these rules like the back of her hand. She understood the point of those vague rules. Mothers protect the kin so they can keep a strong population and pack. Humans are dumb and exposure could lead to a m******e, and the Alpha's voice alone could get a person to jump off a bridge. It was common sense really. Her family took protecting one's kin to a different level. Since the dawn of time the rule was mothers stay with their daughters until they find their mate, then connection is gone. Bless the Moon Goddess! Mothers stay with their sons until their death. Someone has to help take care of the boy and his fast growing family. Veronica thought the rule was just crazy, but she was always a rule breaker. She was lucky though, if it wasn't for this her mother would have left long ago when her mate rejected her.
Her mother, Margret, longed to have a mate and start a family of her own. She had the best childhood and her upbringing made her respect all that the Moon Goddess would give. Margret knew she was lucky, and would have been the best mate. She was a respectful young she-wolf, who could cook. She never talked back and followed orders well. She was also beautiful with honey blonde hair and blue eyes. There were freckles that highlighted her nose and cheeks. It was a real shock to her to be rejected, especially after the night they had, after he marked her his. The ache, the pain, she couldn't do anything but accept it. She had no one but was permitted to stay in the Dark Moon Pack until further arrangements were made. Things only got worse for her when she found out she was pregnant. She didn't want to tell anyone but all confirmed pregnancies get sent in to the Alpha. She knew eventually word would get out so she went to tell her mystery mate. Margret was excited because she thought it would mean they could be together. She had never been so wrong about anything in her perfect little life. He was furious to say the least. This is when Margret Smith's sentence began. She would never be allowed to leave the pack lands and if she did she'd be hunted down. She would never mingle with the rest of the back and had to live in the human town that was in their territory.
Veronica knew her mom didn't hate her, even though she was the reason why her life was a prison sentence. If it wasn't for the bloodlines, she knew her mom would have left her to start over. Darn Moon Goddess for screwing her over. This didn't bring Veronica down anymore. Her life was constant chaos and V accepted it, heck, she thrived in it. It is what any free spirit wants right? Veronica was fearless, it was one of her best strengths but also such a big weakness. It meant she never backed down from a fight, which didn't help her when it came to making friends. She didn't want to be friends with humans anyway. She grew up without any biases, but she learned quickly that they were awful..
*Flash back to Junior High*
"Mom..I really don't feel good, can I stay home? My body is all sweaty, and I'm feeling lightheaded."
"You have been complaining for weeks. You probably are just getting your period. The nurse has supplies for that. I am busy today so I can't take care of you;" her mother answered.
"Uhh, it's not like you'd take care of me anyway!" whispered Veronica. The extent of Margret being a mother was providing food in the cabinets and new clothes on occasion.
Veronica took the twenty minute walk to the school on this rainy morning. Her blonde hair soaked from the rain and her black converse were muddied and soaked completely through. "Damn, I wish we lived somewhere with sidewalks. This rinky dink backwaters town needs some serious improvements," she thought to herself. She was running late, and beyond grumpy at this moment. She only had to get through two more days then it was the weekend. The weekends weren't any better because she never got invited to anything and was too embarrassed to invite anyone over. The good thing though was she got to go exploring, and every time she gets a little farther. It almost felt like something was drawing her deeper into the woods behind her house.
She walked into her classroom and sat in the back like usual. She was typically invisible, but not today. It has been rainy before, they have seen her like this countless times. Something was different this time. She could feel her face heat as they began to whisper about her. Finally, another student shouted "What the heck happened to your hair. Seriously how'd your mother let you leave looking like that, freak!" Before anyone said anything Veronica grabbed a hair of scissors off the teachers desk and cut off the ponytail of that girl. She was content with her actions, but it got her suspended. V practically skipped out of school. She really started to become a frequent flyer in the discipline office, and they knew the drill. Margret wouldn't show up to get her so either she had to wait there until school let out or they'd call saying what happened and she was free to go. They took option 2.
She was still laughing at her actions when she got home. When her mom was sitting there waiting for her. "Well this is new, " she thought to herself.
"Veronica! I told you I was going to be busy today! You are so self- What happened to your hair?" her mom said while taking a step closer to examine her. "Did you forget to wash your hair? Are you trying to rebel by doing a botch job of dying your hair?"
"No mom, I just washed it last night. What are you even talking about??" V was really starting to freak out. She walked over to the mirror and saw it. There was no way.. It didn't make sense.. Her beautiful hair.. Her long straight blonde hair was doing something unheard of, it was turning gray and wavy. It looked like a disaster! Her mom was close to shaving her head saying "You'll never find a man looking like that." That was not happening, so she convinced her mom to go about her business and she would shower and sleep and they'd figure it out later.
On that night, Veronica left for the woods. She felt like she was going crazy. The next thing she knew she passed out. She woke up two days later, disoriented and naked but for the blanket that covered her. That is when she met Oscar and Trixie.
