Usher helped him sit up and survey his surroundings. The car broke down and the cab was wrapped around a tree trunk. Chloe's memories come back - the hunt, the accident, Asher's desperate attempt to protect her. "God,"he whispered, his eyes looking at Asher. He pulled her in and wrapped her arms around him like a shield. "We're alive,"he whispered. "That's all that matters."But Chloe knew better. People who follow them will not stop until they die. "Asher, we have to move,"he urged. Asher nodded and scanned their surroundings. Deep in the forest, the main road was nowhere to be seen. He helps Chloe straighten her legs and supports her as she tests her legs. "We will find shelter,"Asher promised. "And that determines our move."Chloe's thoughts raced as they walked through the forest. Who are these people? And what did they want? The trees seem to be closing in, long, dark shadows. "Inside!"They ran out the door and locked it. Asher closed the door to the seat. Chloe sighed in heavy breathing. "So, what?"Asher's eyes looked at the house. "We need a plan."The house has little protection - broken walls, dusty furniture and a single dirty window. Outside, the engines idle and the hunters surround the building. A voice came from the megaphone. "Chloe, come out! You can't hide forever.""What should I do?"Escher's jaw is compressed. The door creaked again, the wood groaning under the pressure. Asher's eyes met Chloe's. "Come back," whispered, placing himself between Chloe and the door. Koroi stepped back and fixed his gaze on Asher's figure. The door shook and the door scraped the floor. He will hold a fortress, but for how long? Asher's hand reached into his pocket, where his knife was waiting. A crash, followed by the sound of breaking glass. Chloe sighed. "We are surrounded by them."Usher shook his head sadly. "We need an exit strategy."He quickly looked around the house and found a small window in the back wall. "Chloe, will you be there?"Asher asked. Chloe nodded with wide eyes. Asher lifted Koroi onto the cart and helped him to the window.
