Chapter 2: Emma’s Company?

1414 Words
As soon as Tom finished speaking, the entire lobby went silent. The two receptionists and the well-paid security guards froze, staring at him in shock. She’s got skin as fair as snow—where's this “dark forehead” nonsense coming from? For the first time, a flicker of change crossed the icy woman's face. No one had ever insulted her so openly in front of others. No, wait—this was the second time! The first was just an hour ago! Seeing that he had the whole room's attention, Tom clapped his hands with a grin. “What’s wrong? Speechless now? Look at you, a stunning woman, but you're as cold as an iceberg. First chance you get, and you throw cold water on people…” The woman’s expression grew even colder. “First chance? You were the one who kicked me first, then insulted me afterward!” Tom sighed, looking around at the stunned faces. “With that blank look on your face, anyone would think you've got some nerve issues! You know what I think of when I see you?” “Who are you calling nerve damaged? And what do you think of?” she snapped. Tom smirked. “Hormonal imbalance.” “Guards, throw this man out! And if he steps one foot into this building again, you can all hand in your resignations!” She glared at Tom one last time before storming off, her heels clicking furiously on the marble floor. “Yes, CEO!” The guards, eager to keep their high-paying jobs, rushed forward, grabbing Tom’s arms and dragging him toward the door. The staff in the lobby watched in shock. Who was this madman who dared to curse Emma on her own turf? First, claiming to be her boyfriend, then accusing her of nerve issues, and finally calling her “hormonally imbalanced?” Bold didn’t even begin to describe him. “CEO?” Tom muttered, already halfway out the door. “So, she's Emma?” “Of course, she’s Emma! Who else in the capital could be more beautiful?” a guard huffed. “But you’ve got guts, man,” another guard said with a smirk. “Standing in front of Sanxing and accusing the CEO of having a hormonal problem—you’re one of a kind! Our CEO is always as cold as ice.” Tom sighed, a hint of regret in his voice. “I didn’t know she was Emma.” “Oh, you didn’t, huh? And yet you said you were her boyfriend?” One of the guards patted Tom on the shoulder. “Brother, I suggest you leave quickly. Don’t make us lose our jobs.” Tom flashed a smile. “Relax, I won’t make things difficult for you. Within ten minutes, Edu himself will come down to get me.” “Oh, come on, quit bragging,” the guard chuckled. “The chairman is a big deal! Even the mayor can't meet him that easily, let alone him coming down to get you. Not a chance.” The guards were confident; they had heard the CEO's orders themselves. If this troublemaker somehow managed to step through the company’s doors again, their jobs would be toast. “Don’t believe me?” Tom pulled out his phone and dialed the strange 20-digit number. “I can’t get into Sanxing right now. Tell Edu to come down and get me within ten minutes. If he sends anyone else, I’m leaving.” He hung up, looking calm and unbothered. “Brother, you really need to go. If the CEO sees you still hanging around, we’re in deep—” Before the guard could finish, he froze. Tom had casually grabbed a chair from the lobby, placed it by the entrance, and sat down, crossing his legs comfortably as if settling in for a show. “Get up! Stop making trouble here!” The guards were now officially annoyed. Tom's behavior was pushing their patience, forcing them to use force to deal with him. Sanxing's guards were all trained in martial arts. Two of them grabbed Tom’s arms, preparing to haul him out. But to their shock, Tom didn’t budge an inch. “What’s going on?” The two guards stared in disbelief, gritting their teeth as they strained harder and harder, but Tom remained as steady as a rock. Tom glanced at the guards. “Guys, don’t waste your energy. I didn’t make things hard for you because I think you're decent. Believe me, Edu will be down here soon.” Edu, a man in his fifties, slightly overweight with a receding hairline, was in the middle of a shareholders’ meeting when his secretary walked in with a phone in hand. “Chairman, you have a call.” “I told you, no calls while I’m in a meeting!” Edu snapped, clearly in a bad mood. “But sir, it's your other phone. You specifically said that if this phone ever rings, we must answer it immediately…” “What?!” Before the secretary could finish, Edu snatched the phone, his hands trembling slightly as he stared at the number. With a rush of excitement, he pressed the answer button. The shareholders around the table watched in astonishment. They had never seen the usually composed Edu react this way. “Yes! Yes! I’ll be right there!” Edu replied eagerly. The call ended, and he stood up, grinning from ear to ear. “Meeting adjourned. I’m going down to meet a very important guest.” Back at the company entrance, Tom sat calmly. The guards had tried everything, working up a sweat, but Tom hadn’t moved an inch. Frustrated, one of them pulled out a stun baton, flicking it on with a crackling sound. Just as he was about to use it, a loud voice boomed from the entrance, “What on earth is happening here?!” Edu had just stepped out of the elevator and caught sight of the scene. “Ridiculous!” he yelled. The guards froze, dropping the baton in panic. “Chairman, this man was causing trouble. The CEO ordered us to remove him,” one stammered. “Causing trouble?” Edu fumed, his eyes blazing. “You’re the ones causing trouble! This is Mr. Tom, a distinguished guest of our company, and you dare treat him like this? Report to HR immediately; you’re both fired!” The guards' faces turned pale as sweat dripped from their foreheads. The receptionists were equally stunned. The man who had just argued with the CEO was really a VIP? If they had known, they would have never tried to stop him. Tom stood up, smiling at Edu. “Edu, they were just following your daughter’s orders. They were only doing their job. Let’s not make a big deal out of this.” Edu hesitated, then nodded. “Fine. Since Mr. Tom has spoken for you, you’re off the hook this time. Be more careful in the future.” “Y-yes, sir! Thank you, Chairman!” the guards stammered. Edu turned to Tom, his expression apologetic. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience, Tom. Please, come up to my office and relax.” As Edu led Tom inside, the receptionists and guards stared in disbelief. When had the chairman ever treated anyone with such respect? Tom grinned and called back to them, “I’ll treat you all to a meal sometime.” Sitting on the luxurious sofa in Edu's office, Tom scanned his surroundings with curiosity. “This teacup—it’s from the Ming Dynasty, isn’t it? Must be worth four or five million at least,” he said casually, examining the cup from a distance. Edu chuckled, impressed. “I didn’t know Mr. Tom had such a keen eye for porcelain.” Tom smiled. “I dabbled in the trade while I was in Europe.” “Ah, that explains it,” Edu replied, nodding. Little did he know, if he learned that Tom also possessed an ancient Egyptian pharaoh's crown, he'd probably be too stunned to speak. Edu picked up the phone. “Alice, please come in.” Moments later, a young woman in a professional skirt entered. She looked to be in her twenties, with striking features and a stunning figure. Tom couldn’t help but give her a second glance. "Sanxing sure has its fair share of beauties," he thought to himself. "Seems like I'm going to enjoy my time here."
