*CHAPTER 18: THE DOCTOR KNOWS, THE FATHER KNOWS, AND THE BABY LIVES*
*Damien’s POV*
Her shout woke us up.
I ran to her.
“What happened?” I asked, worried.
“What am I doing here? Marie, what am I doing here?”
She said it holding Marie and ignoring me as if I was invisible.
The doctor rushed in.
“Hey, hey.” He patted her and laid her back on the pillow, then helped her sit up.
“Okay, so you were rushed in here with a cab man. It’s like you sat in the front seat and the car was involved in an accident. But you’re fine.”
He reassured her.
“Damien,” she called, and her voice sounded weak.
“Yes,” I answered and moved closer to her.
“Can you give me and the doctor space? I want to speak privately with the doctor.”
She pleaded. I knew it wasn’t from my mind. She just wanted me gone, and I didn’t want to stress her, so I left.

*Ava’s POV*
Hmmmmmm. I breathed heavily.
“Doctor, how about my baby?”
I asked, worried. Thinking of the next blow.
“He’s fine. You are three weeks gone, Ava, and you haven’t registered for antenatal yet.”
He said, worried.
“Doctor Josh, please can you not tell Damien?”
I begged.
“Please, sir.”
Marie also begged.
“Why?”
The doctor asked.
“Will you help us or not?”
Marie asked.
“You know I don’t only treat the body but also heal the heart.”
He moved closer to Marie and gesticulated with his hands.
“I would definitely kill to have me in your heart.”
He said flirting, licked his lips, and stepped out of the ward.
“WATTTT the f*_k?”
“Did Doctor Josh just flirt with you? Gurrl, you are fire!”
“Clock it!”
I said doing the clock it trend with my hands.
Marie just stood there numb.
She then smiled and went to sit.

*Damien’s POV*
The doctor came out of the ward smiling and blushing.
For some reason I wanted to know why, so I followed him to his office.
We got to his office and I sat across him.
“Doctor, did the accident affect any part of her body?”
I asked.
“No.”
The doctor said absentmindedly, checking the file on his desk.
“What of baby junior?”
I asked again, this time hoping for an answer I wanted.
“No,” he said absentmindedly again.
Then after a few seconds that seemed like ages to me, he looked at me, removed his glasses, and said,
“Did I mention that she’s pregnant?”
He asked like an old lecturer.
“No, but doc please talk to me. You came into the ward with a stern look. Now you came out smiling and blushing all over. Can I know the cause?”
He laughed hysterically.
“You must think I am Doctor Williams that does everything anyone from the COLE PALACE wants. Please leave my office, Damien.”
He said angry, like I offended him or crossed boundaries.
“Okay, sorry doc, but please how did you know Doctor Williams?”
I asked, confused.
He remained mute.
I waited for minutes that seemed like years and he didn’t say anything.
I stood up and sluggishly walked to the door.
Then I stopped because I heard him clear his throat. Then he started talking.
“Williams and I have been friends since high school days. We studied medicine together. We wanted to build our hospital together, but he had connection to great people who were ready to help. He begged for me to come join him, but I said I would love to start my own with God’s help, not connections that I’ll later regret.”
“He’s been regretting it since you brought multiple girls for abortion and Mrs. Cole ordered for his mouth to keep shut.”
“And hmmm.”
He stopped and then smiled mischievously.
“If I hadn’t known better I would have said MRS. VICTORY COLE gave birth to Isabella. Because Isabella inherited every ounce of mischief from the Empress.”
He then stopped.
I left his office, still trying to figure out what he meant.
Then my phone started ringing.
It’s Isabella. I picked.
“Yes,” I said, irritated.
“Doctor Williams said you came around with that THING today.”
She said annoyingly.
I was so vexed.
So Ava is a thing?
Wow. I remembered Doctor Josh’s words and I immediately merged Isabella’s own with it.
“So you’ve started talking to Doctor Williams privately now. Wow. Well done.”
I said suspiciously.
She stammered and no words came out, so she hung up.
I walked into Ava’s ward smiling.
“So you think you can take Junior away from me, huh?”
I said, smiling authoritatively.
I could see the shock in Marie’s face.
“Damien, calm down.”
Marie said pleadingly.
“Are you nuts? Are you in your right senses? Are you okay, huh Marie?”
She thundered.
“And you, Damien, what gives you the right to frame me like that without evidence?”
She said with so much anger in her eyes.
“Well,” I started, this time with a stern look.
“Well, Doctor Josh and Doctor Williams are friends. Doctor Josh didn’t explain anything, but he mentioned in his words that Doctor Williams is being used by the COLES and that Isabella inherited my mom’s mischief.”
“And then Isabella called to tell me that Doctor Williams told her we came to the hospital today.”
“That explains the fact that Doctor Williams and Isabella are close, and they probably planned the MISOPROSTOL thing and also cooked up a lie just to cover up. And also he definitely cannot say you’re pregnant because we would find out the truth.”
“So that explains it, Miss Ava.”
I said with a lot of contentment.
She couldn’t say anything. She knew I’ve found out, but I need her and Doctor Josh to confirm that she’s really pregnant.
_Before my wedding, Lord. Before the wedding.*
I pleaded in my heart.
