Chapter 22
Stella arrived five minutes after Adam and Isobel. Adam knew it was her by the furtive look she gave all as she walked in.
It was an early booking, and at that time of the evening there was only one other table occupied, by a couple. Nevertheless, Stella had a good look round appearing very nervous. If Adam hadn’t already known she had just returned from the Seychelles, she appeared so pale he would have thought she had been in a basement office for the last few months.
Isobel rose and beckoned her over; Stella sat but still looked around. She appeared very frightened; the realisation of what was going on had obviously hit her, and it was easy to see she needed to talk about it.
Isobel introduced Adam but didn’t explain his presence. She asked Stella to tell them again what
