Silas POV
The moment the dining hall began to empty, Alpha Silas grabbed Lady Lyra's arm and practically dragged her down the quiet hallway toward his private study.
He pushed the door open, stepped inside, and closed it hard behind them.
"What was that about?" Alpha Silas demanded, turning to face her, his voice low and tight with anger. "What do you mean by agreeing to send Eliana without talking to me about it first?"
Lady Lyra crossed her arms, rolling her eyes in annoyance. "Why are you making such a big deal out of this, Silas? She is just an omega maid. It doesn't matter who goes!" She narrowed her eyes, stepping closer to him with a sharp, suspicious look. "Or do you still have feelings for her? Is that why you are so adamant about keeping her here?"
Alpha Silas shifted his stance, his jaw clenching tightly. "It's not about being adamant! Don't you think it's suspicious? Out of all the omegas in this pack house, the Northern delegation picked *her* to go with them."
"They were impressed with how their guest room turned out and found out she was the one who arranged it," Lady Lyra shot back, waving her hand dismissively. "It could have been anybody! Commander Vance asked for the maid who did the room, and I agreed. Do you want us to seem like we disagree with the North? Do you want to look inhospitable right after signing a border treaty? Sending a simple maid to help them is just a token of our goodwill. There is no big deal!"
Alpha Silas turned his back on her, walking toward his desk.
In truth, his mind was spiraling. Even though he had rejected the mate bond with Eliana years ago—choosing power, position, and Lady Lyra's high-ranking family—he still liked having her around. They used to be close once. Keeping her in the pack house, under his thumb, made him feel in control. The thought of her walking away to the North, completely outside his reach, made something cold and bitter twist in his gut.
Lady Lyra watched his back, her voice dropping into a dangerous glare. "Is there any specific reason you don't want to see her go, Silas?"
"Don't be ridiculous," Alpha Silas snapped, turning back around to face her.
Before Lady Lyra could press him further, a firm, heavy knock echoed off the study door.
Without waiting for an invitation, the door swung open. Valerius and Commander Vance stepped into the room.
The air in the study instantly thickened with the heavy, crushing presence of the Northern Alpha. Valerius stood tall and composed, his dark eyes calmly taking in the tense posture of the couple in front of him.
Commander Vance stepped forward, putting on his smooth, professional smile.
"Alpha Silas, Lady Lyra," Commander Vance spoke, his tone polite yet carrying the weight of authority. "We apologize for interrupting, but we wished to settle our travel arrangements before retiring for the night. Our delegation will be leaving tomorrow morning. What do you say about our request regarding the omega?"
Alpha Silas opened his mouth to stall, his mind racing for an excuse.
"Of course," Lady Lyra cut in quickly, shooting a sharp, warning glare at Alpha Silas before turning to Commander Vance with a bright smile. "She will go with you. We will have her called in right now so we can give her the news."
