After Dr. De Luca refused to speak with Rosa, she sent Lucy into his office. He remained indifferent, speaking to Lucy with professional detachment as he explained the medication schedule and the necessary follow-up appointments. Finally, they returned home. Renzo was ecstatic to be there; even though it was just a small studio apartment and he had barely spent any time in it before his chemo began, it felt like his true sanctuary. It didn't smell like the sharp chemicals of the hospital; it smelled like his mother—warm, familiar, and full of love. Rosa had carefully laid out all his favorite toys to welcome him, and his eyes lit up at the sight of them. After he finished his favorite breakfast, Lucy made a large pot of pasta for lunch, the steam filling the room with a sense of normalcy
