Chapter 4 Nimcha I needed space, being without Cin was starting to affect me mentally so I flew up to Colorado for a couple of days. I had left listening devices all over the pack, so that I wouldn’t miss a bit of information while I was away. It felt good to be in my human skin for a while, I had been in my animal form for so long I was starting to forget I could change back. I completely went MIA not wanting Li or Jian to be able to contact or even find me. It was odd doing this without Cin usually we disappear together. Just the two of us. We are f.raternal twins taking most of our looks from our mother. Our mocha skin tone and very dominate African features. Unlike our brothers Sim and Sabre who are a blended form of their mother and our father. Our Dad Clay was of Asian and Irish decent. He was born somewhere in Ireland. To an Irish father and Asian mother. He inherited his dads red hair and grey eyes while keeping his mother’s ethnically Asian features. He was a beautiful man no wonder our mother fell helplessly in love with him. He was a good man treating our mother well caring for her and us up until the very end. It was him who sent us to our older brothers upon his death and our tribes’ destruction. Our father never lied to us. He told us everything from us being owls, to the fact that he had at least 2 other children out in the world. That our mother was not his goddess giving mate, but he loved her all the same. He said he found a peace he’d never known with us, and I tend to believe that. When we turned sixteen it was the best day of our lives. My dad didn’t think Cin would be able to shift and when she did, we were all amazed at how small and delicate she was. Our father had been a big barn owl like me. He had taken us on a flight that morning. but had us go off alone to bond as twins and as owls. Telling me to watch for my sister as she fluttered around me. We had a good week of just us and our dad before all hell broke loose. Cin and I had been out flying when the witches and Vampires attacked our tribe. When we returned, everything was burned to the ground. Our mother was left broken and drained on the floor of our home. Our dad was pinned to a tree in his animal form missing his wings and most of his feathers. When we took him down his hands and feet were missing as was most of his skin. I held him in my arms as he told us to go find our older brothers Scimitar and Sabre, told us want the council was and that it was the council that led to the downfall of the owl race. But it would be the council that will lead to its rise again. With that we took what little we had and left. We went in search of Sabre and Scimitar. It was the council office in Egypt that we went to with a single note we had found stuffed within our fathers tossed about belonging. C.ouncilman Thoth was unlike anything we thought. He was a tall lean, muscular African man I felt drawn to him but couldn’t figure out why. It was him who got in touch with Li and thus our older brothers to take us in. It was him that gave us money and clean clothes before sending us off to Japan where c.ouncilman li was at. When we arrived, it was a culture shock for sure. But me and Cin blended into the background and just observed everything before we actually met our older brothers. *Flashback* The compound that C.ouncilman Li lived in was full of activity on a crisp October day. We had arrived there about a week earlier greeted by the human servants of the vampire clan. At first it was traumatizing basically being in the belly of the beast. If it wasn’t for c.ouncilman Thoth sending his most trusted advisor with us, I don’t think we would have stayed there. C.ouncilman Li was arriving later that night and with him our older brothers. A couple of hours later C.ouncilman Li finally arrived. We stayed in the shadows just looking at a younger replica of our father from the hair to the features. Cin gave a whimper and almost ran up to him, but I held her back. No matter what our father had told us we didn’t know these two men who held our fathers face. As they walked deeper into the compound the older of the two seemed to have sensed us and turned directly in our direction. It was at this time Nya the advisor from Thoth went up to the one that looked exactly like dad and whispered in his ear. His eyes widened then softened as he looked in our direction. He stopped the younger one from going into the house as he just listened to what Nya had to say. C.ouncilman Li and his entourage had already gone into the house to enjoy the festivities. When Nya was done, she called for a car and left. Leaving me and Cin standing in the courtyard with these two strange men. “Hello little ones, my name is Scimitar Pahn. I am your oldest brother,” the one that looked exactly like dad said. I nudged Cin behind me and looked the man in his eyes “Hello I am Nimcha and behind me is my twin sister Cinquedea.” He smiled a warm smile that reminded me of my dad. “Well as I said I am Scimitar and this is Sabre, your other brother.” Brother the other one questioned. “Yes Sabre, it seems our dad ended up living in a tribe in central Africa for a good while. No wonder I lost track of the old buzzard. He met and chose an African woman as a mate, settled down and had these two over here. It seems about 2 weeks ago a witch with the help of some rogue vampires slaughtered everyone in the tribe to include our father.” I looked at my oldest brother as he factually recounted what had been me and my sister lives currently. The other one, Sabre his name is Sabre I reminded myself. Looked stunned and like he was about to cry. But before he could Scimitar looked at us and asked can you shift yet? I replied yes for the both of us and within a blink of an eye Scimitar had shifted in a large snow-white owl, looking like Hedwig from harry potter just larger. While Sabre was the complete opposite, he was a large all black horned owl that blended almost perfectly with the night. I shifted into my grey and white barn owl while Cin shrunk down into her petite elf owl and took off after them. Sim had led us to several miles away to an empty barn somewhere in the rice fields of Japan. There we stayed in our animal forms mind linking each other for the first time. I was amazed that we could do it, but Sim had told me since we were related, we didn’t need a parliament for our bond to form. That it was formed the moment each and everyone of us was born. Cin formerly introduced herself to our brothers and we all mourned our father well into the morning and the next day. We all stayed in our animal forms until we arrived back to C.ouncilman’s Li compound where I was introduced to Jian another owl shifter from a parliament that was from Japan. His parliament was massacred, and he was the only living descendant. We were allowed to stay with Sim and Sabre for only a couple of months before c.ouncilman Li sent us to the cave for training. *End of Flashback* It always amazes me how easy it was to connect with Sim and Sabre. There was no sibling rivalry or hostility Sim was just happy to have his family with him and Sabre was the same way. When we lost Sim, it almost killed us, but Sabre took us under his wing and gave us time to grieve our brother even though he was hurting too. He would constantly say we’re all we got now. He would try to stay in contact with us regularly unless he was on a dangerous assignment like the one, he was recently sent on. He was especially protective of Cin we all are given that she is technically the youngest and only girl. As I was reminiscing, I practically ran over a young blonde woman in the hipster beer restaurant I had entered. Excuse me miss I said as I helped her catch her balance. The moment my hand touched hers I recoiled back. S.hit I hope she didn’t notice, standing in front of me was a f.ucking witch yeah sure she was cute with her shoulder length blonde hair, blue eyes and button nose. But sh.it this is to close for fu.cking comfort. I am so glad the council taught me and Cin to hide our auras to appear as just humans to other supernatural’s. Oh, I am sorry I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going, she said to me. No problem I said as I maneuvered my way out of her path. I watched as she made her way to a table where a very tall darkskin man was sitting. He was sending the stink eye my way hard, so I just sat at the nearest table acting like I didn’t see them. He wasn’t giving off any supernatural auras so I would assume he was human, if it wasn’t for how he carried himself like everyone round him, but the witch was beneath him. I let my animal senses take over for a moment to try to listen in on their conversation in this crowded restaurant. “So, have you found out anything about her yet like when she is due? The male asked the little witch. “No not yet but by my calculations it would be around Christmas time.” She answered. “f**k that she’s carrying an alpha my heir she should be due sooner.” He huffed out “Well, I guess we will just have to travel down to New Mexico to see how close we can get to that stupid pack now won’t we.” The witch said. I looked at them harder now knowing they plan to make their way to Desert moon the only pack in fu.cking New Mexico. This as.shole is an alpha of some kind but he’s not throwing off any supernatural aura I wonder why the f***k not. Even if the witch was hiding it from everyone for him. I should be able to see past it. Magic doesn’t affect owls. Urgh, it seems I will have to cut my disappearing act short and head back to Desert moon to see what f.uckery these two have up their sleeves. Shortly after blondie and her chocolate drop left the restaurant and I was able to breathe a sigh of relief that the witch didn’t recognize me. I ate my burger and drank my beer in relative peace. Before leaving and going back to my hotel room. I now had a duffle bag of clothes and toiletries with me. So, I opted to buy a bus ticket from Denver back down to Silver city. There I can rent a room and fly over to the pack from there. Sabre I decided to stay close to the pack and not travel to California. I had found one of the listening devices Nimcha usually plants when he is away from his assigned targets. When I found that it made up my mind that my little brother would be back soon to check what the device had recorded in his absence. It’s been about a week since I arrived at the pack. I found out my mate was the high priestess of the coven having buried the last high priestess recently. Alpha Cj had her mate Alpha Bishop were expecting their first pup soon as well as the Beta. Alpha Declan King of Ocean Groove pack showed up yesterday and to say it was a s.hit show was an understatement. Apparently, the dingus doesn’t take no, hell no, or f***k you no as an answer. I thought it was going to come to blows between the two male alphas since it seemed Declan wasn’t trying to leave the territory. But my mate came in and saved the day. I wasn’t keen on her being so close to King or the way he looked at her when he thought no one was watching. But she seemed to handle him and the situation with ease. She was able to get him to leave the territory, and I believe she put an enchantment on him. Cause as soon as he left the packs territory he was heading directly back to California. I followed him as far as the Arizonia/New Mexico border before flying back to the pack. I took my usual perch on the willow tree outside of the coven house needing to be close to my mate. The arrival of Declan king and how he reacted to my mate was not sitting well in my soul. I needed to make a decision one way or the other. Will I reject the bond the goddess has given me, or will I embrace it and see where it leads. With a heavy heart I left my perch and headed back to my hotel room. Once there I ordered a green chili brisket burrito and a local craft beer from one of the bars in town. Once my food arrived, I sat down and pondered my next moves as I ate. I was getting used to the local cuisine and it wasn’t making me ill anymore. I liked the carne asada and the green and red chili used in the food. Half through my meal I decided to stop by the apothecary tomorrow and see if I could ask my mate out on a date. Maybe if I could date her before revealing my identity to her it wouldn’t be as bad as I am thinking it would be. Plus, I can better gage what kind of person my mate is. not just what the goddess Athena tells me. The next day I laid about my hotel room that morning waiting until early afternoon before getting ready to go to the apothecary to see my mate. I decided to dress in khaki pants and a teal polo, my hair was up in messy bun, and I decided to put on my dark brown eye contacts since wearing my aviator glasses again would be a little to suspicious. I hope they will be enough to block the mate bond from her. With that I left my room and headed down to the shop. I entered the shop to the same jingle of the bells while being engulfed in her rose and vanilla scent. How odd I can make out the scent among all the others that hang heavily in the air. As I made my way to the counter, I pulled up short. There in front of me was my mate actively flirting with a park ranger if his uniform was anything to go by. It took every ounce of control I had not to go over there and slit his throat. I breathed in and out of my nose trying to rein my animal instincts in before I did something stupid. Once I was sure I wouldn’t go feral I slowly walked up to the counter and interrupted them. “Ummm, hello there?” I said, breaking into their conversation. “Oh, hi there again how are you doing today?” My mate asked me. “I am doing definitely better now. Thank you for helping me again.” I said. “No problem it was my pleasure how may I help you now?” she asked me. “Well, I needed more ginger tea and maybe some ointment for stiff muscles.” I said “Oh, I can help with that.” She came from around the counter towards me thoroughly forgetting about the ranger. “I guess I’ll see you later Rainbow” the ranger said, and I nearly hissed at him in agitation. He had my feathers in huff, and I was slowly losing my composure again. “Oh yeah James, I will catch up with you later.” She said barely sparing him a glance and waving him off as she led me towards the back of the store. “Sorry it seems I interrupted you with another customer.” “Oh no James is just a friend he came by to see how I was doing.” I swallowed hard to regain my composure “A friend umm?” I said to her. “A special friend?” I asked. She turned to give me a side eye. “And if I said he was?” She questioned me. “I would be a little heartbroken as I had planned to ask you out for dinner today.” “Oh really?” she asked, “Yes really I was hoping to get to know you better without having to stop by here all the time.” She just looked at me then smiled brightly. “I would love to go to dinner with you sometime.” “Are you sure your friend wouldn’t mind?” I asked. I was hoping to find out what type of relationship she had with the ranger if any. “Oh, James no he wouldn’t mind like I said he is just a friend.” She answered. “Well then how about tonight, are you free?” She just looked at me, I felt like I was sweating a little bit under her scrutiny but after a while she agreed. “Sure, you can pick me up about 8pm from here.” “You live here at the store?” “Yes, I do I have an apartment above the shop” she replied. I just smiled knowing she lied to me, but she does have to keep up appearances. “Great than I see you tonight.” I told her as I headed towards the door. “Didn’t you need some ointment for your muscles and more tea” she called after me. “No not really I just needed an excuse to come and see you sweetheart” I said right before I headed out the door.
