Chapter 7 Rainbow “Well don’t you look like the cat who ate the cannery?” the goddess asked me as she flipped through my mother’s grimoire. “Goddess?!”, I said confused as to why she would be in my room at this moment. “Oh, come on child you have never been at a loss for words around me so don’t be acting like this now.” She said. “Why are you here?” I asked her shaking myself out of my stupor as I began to undress from my date with Samuel. “Can I just check on you” she said. “NO!” I shouted “there’s always something with you” I said. “Manners Rainbow, I may favor you above others but remember respect young witchling.” “Forgive me goddess” I said bowing my head to her. “I really just came to check on you. I promised your mother I would check on you.” She said. “When will I’ll be able to communicate with her myself” I asked the goddess. “Child you know as I know there is a year after the passing of a witch before they can converse with the living once again. Maybe even longer for your mother,” she said under her breath. “What do you mean maybe longer” I asked her. “You need to find that answer on your own Rainbow.” She said. “So how was your date with that tasty morsel” she said changing the topic quick and giving me a look that said she will not talk about it more. “How did you know about my date with Samuel?” I ask.” Samuel is that what his name is.” she said with a glint of merriment in her eyes. “Yes, Samuel and once again how did you know about my date.” I asked getting irritated once more. “I know a lot of things Rainbow you know that” she replied. “But you are not answering my question” she said “how did it go?” “Why are you so interested” I asked her. She just looked at me humph and stood up. Looking me into my eyes she said “I like him he's a keeper if you so choose to keep him.” With that she disappeared out of my room. That was f.ucking strange I thought to myself. As I walked over to my bed, I looked at the page that the goddess had left open from my mother’s grimoire. It was on the section entailing everything ever known about kitsunes or tailed foxes. Now, why the hell would Hecate be reading about kitsune from my mother’s grimoire I tho0ught to myself as I slipped my nighty over my head. I picked up the book and put it back on my nightstand as I climbed into my bed. My dreams were filled once again by Samuel and how it would feel to have him between my legs. I woke up drenched in sweat and horny as f***k. As I picked up my phone I noticed a text from Samuel. Have sweet dreams and dream of me it said. He must have sent it last night after I went to sleep. Damn that man is going to be the death of me if I don’t get him out of my system soon. I wonder can someone die of s****l frustration I laughed at my stupidity in thinking that question. Since going back to sleep wouldn’t be happening anytime soon, I got up to get my day started. As I headed to my office, I once again passed my mother’s bedroom. This time I went into it, to replace the grimoire Hecate took from it. As I looked around the heaviness that’s been on my heart since her death seems slightly lighter now. I ran my hand lovingly down the four-poster bed remembering the nights I would climb into it asking for her to read me a bedtime story. I turned to look at her desk where she sat me on her lap to teach me a new incantation when I was a child or later as I got older where I would do homework while she sat in her lounge chair and read. I walked over to her personal bookshelf to replace the book but when I got close, I noticed an envelope sticking out between two books. I slipped the envelope out as I sat on the chair beside the bookcase. I slowly opened the envelope and read the letter inside. My Dearest Bow, If you are reading this then I am no longer on the earthly plane. Congratulations on your ascension. Don’t let Susan and Mary get under your skin, you are stronger than those two will ever be. I wish I had had longer but that was not to be. As you already know everything, I have is yours and yours alone. May they bring you the peace they have brought me in my life. If I know you, you are trying to wrap up my life in a neat little bow. That is not going to happen, my love. Your mother lived long, well and mysteriously. What I will tell you is if you ever need to know anything about me go looking where it all started. I hope my secrets do not come to haunt you, but if they do remember I always loved you for you. You are my greatest treasure, my greatest achievement, you are my beloved daughter. I will always be there for you even if I am not there in the flesh. I love you Rainbow always. The tears streaming down my face just wouldn’t stop. She was gone and she knew it was going to happen. As I looked around the room a fire lit in me. I will make Li and that shifter pay for taking my mother from me. They will suffer a thousand and one deaths slowly and beyond painful. I wiped my tears and got up. I will avenge you ama I swear to you. As I walked out of the room a breeze blew past my cheek that felt as if my mother had kissed me. It was a struggle to close the door, I just wanted to crawl in my mother’s bed and inhale her scent that still lingered there. But I knew I couldn’t, I had things to do both for the pack and for the coven. As I entered my office I got down to business. The spell I needed to break the wards on the council’s prison complex in the middle of the Pacific Ocean wasn’t going to be easy or cheap. It was made by Esmeralda the most powerful and oldest witch known. It doesn’t help that she herself is a council member. She was the one who built the wards, and the rumor is one of her acolytes stole the spell to break the wards. Before running off and disappearing from the face of the earth. I need to find this acolyte if possible and get the spell from them in order to even find the f.ucking prison. After that how we get her out is a whole other problem to be dealt with. I rub my temples in frustration to many problems not enough solutions I think to myself. My phone buzzed from the side of my desk. The text is from Samuel date tonight? The smile that crosses my face is genuine, maybe tonight I can get some satisfaction. Sure, let’s say around 8 again like last night I sent back to him. The happy face emoji from him was all I needed to brighten my day. I went back to my research happier and lighter than just a couple of minutes ago. Sabre. I dropped Rainbow off even though I didn’t want to stop our date. But Nimcha finally called me back. He had done one of his and Cins disappearing acts and had finally come back to Desert Moon. I parked the rental car in the hotel’s parking lot. I entered the hotel and went straight to my room. Once inside I went to the balcony where my brother’s soft light grey barn owl sat perched on the tree outside. I opened the balcony door, and he flew inside shifting as he landed softly onto my bed. Bare assed as the day he was born, I threw I pair of shorts at him that I grabbed from the desk chair in the corner. “So why are you here Sabre? I told you I had it covered.” Nimcha said as he slipped on the shorts. “She is my sister too, y’all are all I have left in the world I will not lose you or her without a fight so tell me everything that f.ucking happened from the beginning.” I said irritated that he would question me in such a way. I sat in the chair listening to what Nimcha had to say. It became abundantly clear how f.ucking stupid I had been. How much Scimitar had shielded me from. Co.uncilman Li and Jian were evil fuc.kers who needed to die. Not just from what they did to Rainbow and her mother but because all the evidence showed that it was them that had a hand in Cin’s disappearance. “She’s in the cave I just know it” Nimcha said bringing me out of my pondering. “Are you certain?” I asked him. “Yes, the witch Rainbow and her mother before she was killed had basically tracked the panther to the middle of the Pacific Ocean. You and I both know what’s there.” He said. “Yeah, I know what’s there. So, did you happen to overhear how they would get past the wards?” I asked. “No unfortunately they had not figured that out before I left.” “I see I guess we just have to up the surveillance on the pack to know exactly what they plan before they put it into effect” I told him. “That was my plan from the beginning.” Nimcha replied “Was?” I questioned him. “Yeah, while I was a way I ran into a witch and a human who was plotting against one of the pregnant she wolves here at the pack.” “Ok so?” “When I left the only two, she wolves pregnant, was the alpha and her beta.” “Oh, now I see” I said. “Yeah, so I wanted to be around just in case some more sh.it went down.” “What about you I know you say you are here for us but what really brought you here Sabre. This could have been a call you have always been in Li’s pocket what has changed.” he said a hint of distrust in his tone. “Honestly nothing changed I do not know how you or even Cin seen me, but I can tell you I have never been Li’s or Jian’s lapdog. I made them focus on me after Scimitars death so that they would leave you and Cin alone. I did not want you to go through what I went through. In my way I was trying to protect you two. I didn’t want you falling prey to Li like Jian or even Kalis is. I needed you to have your own autonomy. To act without the influence of Li or the council. It’s what Scimitar wanted for all of us. Our parliament was always just us, the children of Claymore Pahn. What we did in service to the council and Li was just to survive and not end up dead like every other owl shifter out there.” Nimcha just sat there listening to me. His brown eyes staring into my grey ones trying to figure out how much truth I just told. “So, you’re really just here for us.” he asked. “Well, that’s how it started out now it’s more.” He c****d his eyebrow at me, the question lingering in the air. “I found my mate” I told him. “No s.hit another owl shifter?” he asked. “No not an owl shifter a witch.” I told him “WHAT THE f***k!” he yelled “There is no way you are mated to a fu.cking witch. She will kill you on sight.” “That’s what I thought but the union is approved by Athena, she told me herself.” “The goddess came to you?” he asked. “Yes, she did and told me Rainbow is my mate and the match was made by her.” “Rainbow? As in the witch from desert moon? The woman whose mother was murdered by Jian on Li’s orders that Rainbow?” He asked. “Yes, that one.” I confirmed. “Holy s.hit, she won’t hurt you physically, but I highly doubt she will accept you as her mate and beloved. Not after what Jian did.” “I am trying to take it slow and go on dates get to know her before I reveal myself.” I told him. “So, she doesn’t know yet?” “No, I have been hiding my identity using the spelled contacts Li got for me and Scimitar. So, what can you tell me about my mate?” I asked Nimcha. “Well, she is beautiful and loyal to her friends. The death of her mother hit her hard. Out of all of them she is the most sexually free I don’t know if you found out, but she has a thing with a human male from around here. Before the murder of her mother you might have had a chance, now I doubt it. It will be an uphill battle and more than likely you will lose. She is a very powerful witch I would say she might even rival Esmeralda.” “They will pay for everything they have done to her and to us this I swear.” I told Nimcha my anger and fury rising. “So, you will avenge her mother?” he asked. “Of course she is my mate. She is now part of our parliament whether she knows it or not. We have to play this right though. But by the end of it will be just you me Cin and Rainbow unless you two find mates.” I said. “You are making it seem like getting Cin back is a done deal.” Nimcha said shaking his head in disbelief. “Oh, it is little brother it is. even if I have to fly in there myself and kill every f*****g one in the building to get her back.” My eyes glowed gold as my anger rose.
