The patterns grew more complex, spinning around us in an intricate dance of light and crystalline matter. Images began to form in the air the history of New Nova, from its founding to the present day. I saw the first human-Novan contact, the initial cooperation that had built this world, followed by the slow descent into separation and fear.
And then I saw my mother Lady Celeste of the Solmere her face clear now in my restored memories. She stood beside a younger version of Costa's father although she was dressed in human commoner clothing, along side a man that could have only been my father, a low level human legion with the Crown which explains how she would have met him. Instinctually Costa took me into his arms the embrace sending strengthen through the connection.
The three of them stood in what appeared to be a secret chamber within the palace, their expressions solemn as they performed some kind of ritual. My father his human features filled with determination despite being clearly outranked by the others—held a small crystal pendant. The same pendant that had guided us back together.
"They knew," I whispered, leaning into Costa's embrace. "They planned for this possibility."
The crystalline patterns swirled faster, showing more fragments of hidden history hybrid children being secreted away to safety, ancient technologies being preserved against future need, and finally, the moment Costa and I first met at the Le Glow Club, not by chance, but by design, spanning generations.
"The fortune teller," Costa murmured, his breath warm against my ear. "She was part of the resistance all along."
Lord Vexan watched the unfolding history with growing horror, his markings fading to a dull grey. "This changes nothing," he insisted, though his voice had lost its authority. "The people won't accept…"
"The people are already accepting," Lady Arinna interrupted, gesturing to the crowd. Throughout the gathering, humans and Novans had begun to display their own subtle luminescence nothing as pronounced as Costa's and mine, but unmistakable evidence of the change spreading through New Nova.
"What's happening to them?" one of the guards asked, staring at his own hands where faint markings had begun to appear.
"The binding isn't just between us," I explained, understanding flowing through me. "It's awakening what was always meant to be the natural evolution of both our species together."
Costa stepped forward, still holding my hand. When he spoke, his voice carried the perfect blend of royal authority and compassionate understanding.
"For six hundred years, we were told that humans and Novans must remain separate to preserve our unique identities. But look at what that separation has cost us medical advances lost, cultural exchange stunted, and countless lives lived in artificial isolation."
The patterns around us coalesced into a single unified image—New Nova as it could be, with the rigid districts dissolved, with hybrid technologies flourishing, with both populations not just coexisting but truly integrating.
"This is what they feared," I said, addressing the crowd directly. "Not that the binding would fail, but that it would succeed too well. That it would show everyone the lie they've been living."
Lord Vexan made one final attempt, stepping toward the palace guards. "Arrest them! This display is nothing but hybrid trickery…"
But the guards didn't move. Their own markings had begun to pulse in rhythm with the patterns surrounding Costa and me. One by one, they knelt, not in submission but in recognition.
"The Acknowledgment is complete," Lady Arinna announced, her voice carrying across the now-silent courtyard. "New Nova has recognised its rightful rulers."
I felt a momentary panic rulers? Me? I was barely understanding who I had been, let alone being able to rule over people whose problems I had no idea what they were, and so much time had passed, even with what we had seen in the images, it was a lot to take in. I may have royal blood, but I was still having to rediscover myself. I didn’t even know if I was the same person I was 600 years ago, let alone who I was always meant to be; however, it still felt right in some way. As if Costa sensed my uneasiness with everything that had been happening, he slipped his arms around me once more, pulling my back into his embrace for a kiss that held another wave of 600 years' worth of longing and love.
His kiss anchored me in the whirlwind of transformation. When we parted, I could see my own luminescence reflected in his eyes violet irises now ringed with shifting opalescent light.
"We don't have to decide everything today," Costa murmured against my temple, his thoughts flowing into mine through our completed bond. "We have time now. Time we were denied before."
The crowd around us had grown even larger, spilling from the courtyard into the twisting streets beyond. News was spreading through Voidhaven and outward to the rest of New Nova. I could feel it ripples of awareness moving through the collective consciousness of both species.
Lord Vexan stood frozen, his authority crumbling before our eyes. His markings had dimmed to almost nothing, pulsing weakly with what I now recognised as fear mixed with disbelief.
"The transition needn't be violent," Costa said, addressing him directly. "You've served New Nova as you believed was right. But that era is ending."
"You don't understand what you've done," Lord Vexan replied, his voice barely audible. "The outer colonies... the power structures... everything will collapse."
"Not collapse," I corrected gently. "Transform. As we have."
Lady Arinna stepped forward, her markings pulsing with diplomatic precision. "The Council will need to be restructured, of course, with representatives from all populations, humans, Novan, and hybrids alike."
"And my father?" Costa asked, pain filtering through our bond. "If human medicine might have helped him..."
"We can explore all possibilities now," Lady Arinna assured him. "The barriers between our medical sciences are already falling. What was impossible yesterday may not be tomorrow."
The crystalline patterns around us began to settle, sinking into the very structure of Voidhaven itself. I could sense the ancient systems fully activating throughout the city, not controlling, but connecting, creating pathways of communication that had been deliberately severed centuries ago.
A young hybrid woman pushed through the crowd, her features a harmonious blend of both species. "Is it true?" she called out. "Are we free to live openly now?"
"Yes," I answered, the word carrying more weight than I had intended. "No more hiding. No more separation."
