Rarest Of them All

Chapter 1

My name is Rose, I am 18 years old. I have been on my own sort of. Since the age of twelve my cat Emma and I have been surviving a lot better than you would think. But before we get to that let me tell you about my past the night my parents disappeared.

We had just finished dinner and I was in my room playing with Emma, my kitten. When my panicked mother ran into my room, she quickly gathered all my belongings including all my homeschool supplies, clothes and any other necessities that were needed. I scooped up Emma and hugged her tightly to my chest as my mother grabbed my arm and dragged me down the stairs and to the car. 

We drove for what felt like hours and many turns later came up to a small two bedroom cottage deep in the woods. Getting out of the car I was careful to not wake Emma while she slept in my arms, making my way into the cabin, watching as mother put all of my things in the furthest room. I laid down on the bed thinking this will have to do for now as Emma snuggled close to me and I quickly fell asleep.

I woke up to Emma licking my nose.

“Emma that tickles” I giggled as I sat up and looked around.

Well I guess it wasn't a dream. I got up from bed and made my way to the living room

“Mom! Dad! Where is everyone?” I said as I looked over to see Emma pawing at some paper on the end table by the couch. Realizing it was a note from my parents I grabbed it so I could read it before Emma tried to eat it.

Dear Rose,

I don’t really know where to begin, but with We are sorry and we love you very much! I am sorry we had to leave you on your own but it is for your own safety. Your dad hopes this will all be over soon and we can return to get you so don't lose hope! We will be back!

Love, Mom and Dad.

I am what they call a shifter, I have the ability to not only shift into a wolf but a tiger as well. My wolf form is a lightish gray with pink and blue hints of color. And the stripes on my tiger form are also pink and blue. Ever since the day my parents have left I have been studying everything I can about myself and the outside world. From what I remember my parents were Gamma’s, I think. Or maybe they were Omega’s and that's why they ran and hid me. But besides the point I am ready to finally go out and find my parents. Hopefully they are alive! Hopefully.

I finished packing my small knapsack with things Emma and I would need, tying it to my ankle. I motioned for Emma to follow me outside. I shifted into my wolf and picked Emma up by the scruff of her neck, then took off in a full sprint north of the cabin. Weaving between the trees, bushes and rocks I couldn't help but feel so free and happy. I was finally going to find my parents and if they were even alive. I know about mates but that isn't really my priority right now.

I had been running for about 45 mins when I could smell other wolves around me, I must be on another wolf territory, Rolling around in the dirt to mask my scent, when I felt good my scent was as good as gone. Sprinting as fast as possible to get away. Getting to a point where I couldn't smell them anymore I slowed down and stopped at a small creek coming from a cave. Walking into the cave I noticed it had enough space for Emma and I to rest for a bit before heading out on our journey again. Placing Emma down next to me as I shifted back into my human form with my clothes still on. I opened my bag and grabbed out some jerky for us to snack on.

I giggled as Emma started playing around with a small pebble. She could be such a kitten at times. Placing my bag where I could use it as a pillow. I laid down and watched her play, the slight noise as the pebble moved across the cave lulling me to sleep.
