CHAPTER 9

1321 Words
Snow got to her father’s house and when she entered the gate, she was so emotional that she was turning and looking around everywhere. This was her place of peace and rest. She grew up in the house and it brought back memories of her childhood. She did not believe she would ever step foot into the house. She looked around and saw the bushy garden. It looked like it hadn't been touched for ages; it was looking unkempt. She made her way upstairs but the whole house was empty. She walked to the living room; the TV was off and the window blinds were rolled down. “Could my dad be out of town? He doesn't usually take down the window blinds. She went to his bedroom but it was empty. But she could perceive his perfume; it was as if it had been sprayed a moment ago. She went to his chambers but he wasn't there either. She had a happy and sad experience in the chamber before her marriage to Bruce. The happy moments were the times when her father would give her anything she asked for and hug her when she returned home from school and the sad experience was when her father told her about her marriage to Bruce. She remembered how she cried her heart out but her father didn't change his mind. She walked away and entered her room. The bed was neatly arranged, the room was tidy, and it was spotless. She expected it to be dusty since she wasn't occupying it anymore but it was spotless, and her clothes were neatly arranged too. She stared at the picture frame hanging on the wall; it was placed above her bed and that was the first thing one would see when they opened the door. It was a picture of her and her mom; the picture was taken on her 10th birthday; it was taken shortly before her mom died. Even though she was still little then, she could still remember how her mom was so excited to celebrate her 10th birthday party. The second frame was a picture of her and Edna; it was taken in their second year in college. Tears dropped from her face when she touched the frame on the wall; it was as if she could feel the moments as she ran her hand through them. She missed her best friend but Edna’s betrayal hurt more than a knife cut. She heard a car pull up in the driveway. When she looked outside the window, it was her father, but he was accompanied by a younger lady and they held hands and entered the house. She was puzzled when she saw them. Could that be his new personal assistant? But why would they be acting like lovers? She dropped the frame of her and her mother that she was holding and made her way to the living room. Her father was acting all loved up with the lady by his side and she gave him a peck on the lips. Tension built up in the room when Mr. Adams turned and saw Snow standing with her hand relaxing on the staircase rails. He began to stutter; he tried to speak but words failed him. “Snow, what are you doing here? “Who is she, dad? “You shouldn't be here, Snow. Does your husband know you are here? “It doesn't matter; answer the question: who is she and why is she kissing you? The room was filled with an awkward silence. Snow's eyes slowly turned and she saw a picture frame; it was a picture of her father and his newlywed wife. Tears dropped down her face; it was dropping fast and she couldn't control it. Her heart became heavy and it felt like a rock had been placed on her chest. “You got married! You had a wedding ceremony without informing or inviting me. I cannot believe this; how could you? “You were not supposed to find out this way, Snow; I'm sorry. This is my wife, Alison. Alison, meet my daughter, Snow. “Nice to meet you, Snow. I've heard so much about you. You didn't inform us about your visit. I would have prepared something to welcome you. “My dad would have known about my visit if he hadn't sold me to a ruthless man. “But Bruce is treating you nicely, isn't he? He buys you everything you need. “Is that what you care about? How about my mental health? He hits and forces himself on me, Daddy! Is that the definition of a good marriage? “You have to bear with him, Snow; no marriage is perfect. When the time comes, he will understand your love language and work accordingly. “Is it after I'm dead? Snow went upstairs with tears in her eyes. She opened her wardrobe to carry her travel documents, but the file case was empty. She searched everywhere but she couldn't find it. She thought her father had changed the position of the files, but they weren't in her room. She turned the whole room upside down, but she still couldn't find it. She rushed downstairs. Her father was sitting with Alison by his side. He was pressing his phone, but she couldn't see what he was doing. “Where is my document’s dad? “I don't know. “What do you mean, you don't know, I didn't take anything the night I left this house; now I can't find my passport? “Bruce took everything. “What did you say, Dad? “I said Bruce took everything. “Why would you allow him to take my documents? Why did you give it to him? “Are you planning to run away, Snow? "Yes, I am; after all, you’ve cleared all your debts. You owe Bruce nothing now; I'm going to go somewhere far away where you will never set your eyes on me again. “I don't think that is a good idea, Snow. Your father wants the best for you, which is why he gave you to Mr. Bruce. It was for the best. “How dare you speak to me, you roadside w***e? You want to talk about morals when you lack them yourself; if not for money purposes, why would you marry an older man? “How dare you speak to my wife, Snow? Watch your tongue. “Then tell your wife never to interfere in my business again, Mr. Adams!! “What has come over you, Snow? You have become mannerless. “I’m going to go upstairs and pack the stuff I need and you’ll never see me again. I hope you enjoy your life with your golddigger. Snow went upstairs and brought out her suitcase. She packed the few clothes she needed. She was going to go somewhere far from San Francisco. She planned to live low-key somewhere until she could get a new passport to leave the country. She dragged her suitcase down the stairs but it suddenly fell from her hand when she heard a familiar voice. “Going somewhere? It was Bruce; he was sitting on the couch with his legs crossed and his dark shades on. Besides him were Mario and three other guards. “I’m sorry, Snow; I had to call him. “You do this to me, Dad? “I told you what would happen to you if you tried to run away from me, didn't I? "Bruce, please do not hurt me. But it was too late. Bruce landed her a slap; the impact was so strong that Snow’s cheek was vibrating for a few seconds after the slap, and she fell on the couch. Bruce ordered his boys to lift Snow. One of them lifted her to his shoulder and walked towards the door. “Put me down, you moron!
