Chapter One: The Night Everything Changed

760 Words
Isabelle’s POV I had loved him for 15 years. We’d been married for 10, yet in less than five minutes, Ryan shattered everything we’d ever shared. It all started that evening. He had organized a small party with a baby-expecting theme. I was surprised—there wasn’t any reason for a party—but I joined anyway, thinking one of the pack members was having a baby. Funny enough, he wasn’t even at the party. I asked Jade, the pack assistant, “Where is the Alpha?” “He’s not around, your Highness,” he replied with a bow. “Did he tell you where he went?” I asked, my eyes scanning the room for him. “No, your Highness,” he replied. I nodded, signaling for him to leave with my fingers. I picked up my phone, just a second from calling him, when he suddenly appeared. I smiled. “Ryan?” I said. He looked at me—but the warmth was gone. His voice was cold, cruel, subtle: “We need to talk.” I trembled. “What’s wrong?” I asked. Ryan had never spoken to me in such a serious, cruel, and cold manner before. “About…?” I whispered. He grabbed my hands, pulling me out of the party. Confusion, hurt, and panic twisted inside me. “What is it, babe?” I asked, staring at him, my hands now aching. He went quiet—too quiet. My stomach churned, anxiety spiking. “What happened, Ryan?” I asked, suspense choking my voice. Nothing. “Ryan… talk to me!” I demanded. Finally, he started: “I didn't want you to find out like this " " I promise I loved and respect you, but fate has its way of ruining things…” He paused, leaving me confused. I froze, trying to interpret his words positively. Loved? Didn’t he still love me? My mind was a mess. “And what, babe?” I asked, staring deeply at him. Then I caught a scent lingering around—but I ignored it, thinking it was just the party. He shifted slightly, revealing another woman who had been hidden beside him all along. Elegant in red, gold accessories glinting, heels clicking softly, clutching a purse in her left hand, clinging to Ryan as if she belonged there. My blood boiled. “Ryan…?! Who is she?” I stammered, my heart dropping, tears threatening to fall. My wolf stirred, agitated, threatening to consume me. He looked at her with tenderness and care he’d never shown me in 15 years. I became furious. My bloodshot eyes glared, my claws itched, my wolf growling low. “RYAN, I SAID WHO IS SHE?!!” I roared. “She’s my mate,” he said calmly, sensing my wolf’s agitation. “You shall do her no harm! Your Alpha commands it.” “You lie!!” I snapped. “I loved you for fifteen years, and you want to replace me with this… this w***e?!” “She is my mate, Isabelle,” he replied. “I found her four years ago. I didn’t want to tell you. I didn’t want to break your heart, but now she’s pregnant… with my son, the heir of this pack. I had to tell you. Please forgive me.” His words had no trace of emotion. My heart shattered into a million pieces. It dawned on me—the party was for her. I charged. The woman smiled, triumphant, like she’d won a twisted game. My sharp claws scratched her hands; blood oozed immediately. She screamed. Ryan’s face darkened, teeth clenched in fury. For the first time in years, he slapped me. “Seize her!” he ordered coldly, as men rushed to hold me. “You dare not!” I roared, bloodshot eyes blazing, a growl vibrating from my chest. “I said take her!!” he barked again. “I am still the Luna of this pack! You have no right to bring a foreign woman here!” I snapped defensively. “She’s not just any foreign woman, she’s my fated, pregnant mate, and from today onward, you cease to be my Luna. I, Alpha Ryan Blackthorn, reject you, Isabelle Ashford,” he declared. The words hit me like a bomb. My hands shook. My wolf roared deep in my chest. I felt a wave of rage surge though my bones. Ryan ha replaced me in just a twinkle of an eye. My chest tightened knowing nothing would ever remain the same again.
