Chapter Two: The Fall Of A Luna

792 Words
Isabelle’s POV I stood silent, watching as gasps and murmurs escaped the crowd. The blood on my claws made me smile, but I regretted not aiming for her heart instead. They brought a kit, cleaning her wound as she groaned and cried in pain. I gave a proud smile. Then I spoke, trying not to show my hurt… not to show the pain that was in me… not to show him that he had succeeded in breaking me. “Really, Ryan?” I let out a hollow laugh. “You reject me?” He said nothing, staring at me like he was ready for a fight. “Then I reject you too!” I snapped. “From today, you cease to be my mate! You are no longer my Alpha or husband! I hate you, Ryan Blackthorn!” I spat at him. I glanced at his despicable mate. She still stood beside him, trying to calm him down, but I could see through her facade. She didn’t want peace. “And you…” I laughed coldly. “You think you’ve won?” “This is not the end. I am Isabelle Ashford, the Luna of this pack. I was born a Luna. I didn’t need to steal or spread my legs before someone noticed me.” Gasps filled the air. “ And just so you know… this is not over.” “I swear on the Moon Goddess, I will deal with you and your despicable mate. Mark my words.” A sharp slap landed across my face. “Watch your words, Isabelle,” Ryan said coldly. I shifted immediately, charging toward him with all my might— But something hit me from behind. A sharp pain exploded through my back. My vision blurred. I staggered, trying to stay on my feet, but the pain was too much. I fell. They all watched me. Ryan Blackthorn—my so-called husband—looked at me with no emotion. “Lock her up.” Those were the last words I heard before everything went black. “She’s my mate, Isabelle…” “I found her four years ago…” “I didn’t want to tell you… to break your heart…” Those words replayed in my head. My head began to hurt. Was I dead? I better not be. I still have an Alpha—and a mate—to take revenge on. I stumbled awake, finding myself trapped behind bars. Ryan threw me in the jungle. A place where we kept intruders and criminals. The awful smell of dried blood and dirty inmates tortured my nostrils. The place was dark, with almost no ventilation. “He betrayed us! How could he, after everything we did for him?” my wolf growled. How could this happen to me? How could Ryan do this to me?! My cheeks burned. I felt it—his finger marks still buried in my skin. “We need to get out of here,” my wolf said. I already knew that. Suddenly, she came. His mate. Dressed in my royal clothes. Walking like she owned the ground beneath her. I wanted to rip her apart. She stopped in front of my cell, smiling like she had just won something. “Isabelle Ashford,” she said, her fingers playing with the bars. “Luna…” she mockingly laughed. “I mean—Luna of what pack was it again?” I stood there, staring at her quietly. Almost too quietly. “How pathetic,” she said, walking past me slowly. “An ex-Luna like you doesn’t deserve this.” “Especially since you’ve been useful for ten years… signing your pack ownership to my mate and all.” My breath hitched. How did she know that? I paused, processing her words. Then it clicked. The sudden need for more warriors. The endless meetings about strengthening the pack. The pressure to trust him and let him handle things. My breath caught. That contract… I didn’t just sign it for the pack. I handed everything over to him. She watched my face and smirked. “Oh… you didn’t realize you were being used?” She laughed. “The poor, pathetic thing actually thought Ryan loved her.” She spat at me. “I have to go now,” she said, turning away. “The stench of this place is not befitting for a Luna…” She placed her hand on her stomach. “A pregnant one at that.” “It was nice visiting you, by the way. Muah.” She blew a kiss and walked away. Leaving me there. Quiet. Broken. But not blind anymore. Because now I understood everything. Ryan didn’t stop loving me yesterday. He only completed his mission.
