Chapter 10: Unexpected Reaction Kailey was worried about Monica last night. She hadn’t heard from her best friend much since the chaos with Ethan and Kian, and part of her feared something had gone wrong. Maybe she was overthinking—but Kailey needed to check. When she arrived at Monica’s condo, she hesitated for a moment before knocking. The door swung open—and Kailey froze. There they were. Kian—her twin brother—sitting casually on the couch. And Monica, relaxed, smiling, completely at ease beside him. Her eyebrows shot up. So… that’s what’s going on. “Kailey!” Monica’s face lit up. “You’re here!” Kailey stepped inside, trying to mask her surprise. “Oh… wow,” she said, glancing between them. “I didn’t… I didn’t expect this.” Monica laughed softly. “We didn’t mean to surprise you. But yes… Kian and I are together now.” Kailey blinked, processing for a second, then smiled warmly. “Huh… okay. Well… you two look really happy.” She shook her head, grinning a little. “I mean, Kian being jealous like that… I should’ve guessed this would happen eventually.” Kian chuckled, a little sheepish, but relieved. “I’ll take care of her, Kailey,” he said quietly. Kailey rolled her eyes, but her grin didn’t fade. “I know you will. I just… I’m glad she’s with someone who actually makes her happy.” Monica felt a surge of relief. Her best friend wasn’t upset or judgmental—she was just… normal, natural, happy for them. Kailey stepped closer, giving Monica a quick hug. “I was worried about you, you know. But seeing you like this… it’s good. Really good.” Kian smiled softly. “Thanks, Kailey. That means a lot.” Kailey smirked a little. “Just… keep her safe, okay? And try not to make her worry like last night.” Monica laughed, shaking her head. “We’ll behave… mostly.” Kailey grinned, satisfied. “That’s all I needed. Seeing you two happy? Perfect.” For the first time that day, Monica felt completely at ease. Kailey wasn’t shocked, she wasn’t mad—she was just genuinely happy for them. And Kian—holding Monica’s hand gently—felt a quiet warmth knowing his sister approved.
