Chapter 7: The Shadow King
Lyra's eyes widened as she took in the figure before her. He was tall and gaunt, with skin like dark marble and eyes that burned with an otherworldly energy.
"Who are you?" Lyra repeated, trying to keep her voice steady.
The figure bowed low, its grin growing wider. "I am the Shadow King," it said. "Ruler of the Nightmare Realm, and lord of the Shadowborn."
Lyra felt a shiver run down her spine as she gazed into the Shadow King's eyes. She could see the depths of his power, the darkness that lurked within him.
"What do you want from me?" Lyra asked, trying to sound brave.
The Shadow King chuckled, the sound sending shivers down Lyra's spine. "I want your power, Lyra," he said. "I want to harness your abilities for myself, to use them to spread darkness and terror throughout the dreamscape."
Lyra shook her head, determination burning within her. "I'll never let that happen," she said. "I'll never let you use me for your evil purposes."
The Shadow King laughed again, the sound growing louder and more menacing. "We'll see about that, Lyra," he said. "You see, I have a little surprise waiting for you. A surprise that will make you mine, body and soul."
As the Shadow King spoke, the air around Lyra began to distort and ripple. A figure began to take shape before her, a figure that Lyra knew all too well.
"Kael?" Lyra whispered, her heart racing with fear.
But it wasn't Kael. Not really. This was a twisted, corrupted version of him, one that was bound to the Shadow King's will.
"Kael" smiled at Lyra, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly energy. "I've been waiting for you, Lyra," it said. "I've been waiting to show you the true meaning of darkness and despair."
