- “Wait for me. Please.”
How could he ask me that? I loved him so much. Yet, it never felt like that was enough. I would have given anything to be with him. But summer was over and we had to get back to our real lives.
I always aspire for a love like the one you see in movies and read in books. The kind of love that makes your heart flutter. The stories that pop up in your head before you go to sleep, or the ones you daydream about when he is not around. In some ways, I got that. I got the love and passion that these stories portray. I got the craziness and the hundred mistakes. I got the never-ending love I felt for him. But I never got the happy ending. How was that possible? Wasn´t this crazy amount of feelings supposed to be worth it? Wasn’t all of this supposed to end differently?
- “I… I don’t know if I can do that.”
- “Why?” – he asked.
I could see the pain my words caused him and it felt as if my heart was shuttered in a million pieces. Nevertheless, I was also mad at him, and I could feel my rage starting to fill every fiber of my being.
- “You know why. You’ve always known. You just decided that it was not important, and the worst part is I let you. I let you throw everything that matters to me away.”- I could see how his eyes widened, surprised by my outburst - “You only think about yourself, your future, your problems, your life. What about me? What about my future? What about my problems? What about my life? Have you ever thought that I have a past too? That I also have a family that has expectations. That falling in love with some random guy was not part of my plans. Or that this, us, is not easy for me either.”
The confusion and pain in his eyes made me regret what I had just said. He had no idea what I was talking about. If he only knew ..., but he couldn’t. I couldn’t tell him. I would not tell him. What was the point now? It didn´t matter anymore.
- “I love you” – he said – “I hope you know that.”
He started walking towards me, and every step he took made my heart beat even faster.
- “Falling in love with you was not part of my plans either. Especially when I know we don’t have a future together.”
He encircled me with his arms, and held me tight. His scent was making me dizzy. I loved being in his arms. I´ve never felt safer. I couldn’t think right when he was this close to me. I would have pushed him away, but I knew this was the end of our little summer escapade.
I saw it in his eyes when his rational-self won over. His voice became cold and even if his arms were still around me, I stopped feeling welcome in them.
- “Unfortunately, our future is not something that I can fix right now. And your problems are something that I cannot know about. We both agreed on this. No past, no future. Remember?”
His words would have sounded cruel if it wasn’t all my idea. Of course, I freaking remember. I was thrilled at first, never thought that stupid decision would eat me alive in the long run.
He stepped away from me, making me wish I would have hugged him back when he was close. He inhaled deeply and continued.
- “I know nothing about your past and you know nothing about mine. And you are right. You cannot wait for me to solve this. I cannot ask that of you, when I don’t even know if I´ll ever be able to or even if we will see each other again. So, let’s just leave it at that. I have to return home tomorrow and I am sure you are needed somewhere else as well.”
I was on the verge of crying. But he was right. This was the end.

Beep, beep, beep
I woke up scared and disoriented. It took me a minute to realize I was in my room. I keep dreaming about how we left things and I hated it.
It was 5am. I had to get up if I wanted to get to the training field on time. I decided to wear a pair of black leggings and a pink sports bra. I tied my chestnut brown hair in a high ponytail, put on some green eyeliner that matched my eyes and some mascara to make me look more awake.
I took my morning shake and headed to the field. Brandon, the head warrior, decided to pair us up to practice defense and offense tactics. I was paired up with Pam. I don’t like to brag, but I would describe myself as a great fighter. I’ve always known that I would become either the Luna of my own pack or my mate’s pack. Generally, alpha's daughters have an alpha for a mate. But if my mate wasn’t an alpha, my pack was in need of one, so he would become alpha of the Crescent Pack. Needless to say, I had to train hard. I did not want to become a damsel in distress. I want to be a strong Luna, able to defend herself and her pack if need be.
Pam and I fought for a while until training was over. She was a great sparing companion. She always challenged me with new moves.
- “You seem a little off today. You let me win most of the fights. Are you okay?”- Pam asked.
- “Weird dream, that’s all. “
Our conversation got cut short by Liam.
- “Hey girls. Elisa, how are you after everything yesterday?”
- “I’m okay. They are just thinking about it. Is not as if it is a done deal yet.”- I answered while stretching a little bit.
- “What is he talking about? What happened yesterday?” – Pam asked
- “My parents said something about sending Kristen and I away. But I don’t think they will do it. Not soon at least.”
- “That’s not what I heard” – Liam said, looking worried.
- “What did you hear?” – I asked.
Liam looked conflicted. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to tell me or not. But in the end, he decided to talk.
- “My father said it was already being arranged. Apparently, Alpha Edward has been negotiating an alliance with The Emerald pack in Europe and is arranging for them to take both of you.”
- “To take us both?!? You have got to be kidding me. Kristen is still a kid; she needs her parents. And I don’t want to leave and go to an unknown pack.” – I wasn’t expecting this at all. I never thought my dad would be serious about my sister and I leaving. If he already had a pack for us to go to, then that meant his concerns were not new at all. – “I have to talk to my parents.” – I said as I left the training field.
I left my friends and went straight to my dad’s office. I knocked on the door.
- “Come in” – My dad said – “Elisa! Good morning sweetheart. What brings you here so early?”
- “Dad, I want to talk to you about what mom said yesterday about Kristen and I leaving.”- I saw my dad’s face change into a serious expression.
- “Elisa, I know you don’t like it, but it’s the best for you and your sister. Your mother and I need you to be safe. I have been talking to the Emerald pack in Europe. Their Alpha is a respectful and trustworthy man. I met him when I was young, and we’ve reconnected recently. His mate has been talking to your mother about Kristen and everything seems to be falling in place.”
- “And they are willing to take us out of the goodness of their hearts. No strings attached?” – I knew that sounded too good to be true. Alphas loved making arrangements and everything had a price.
- “There is something they want in return.”- My dad eyed me carefully.
- “And that is..?”- I did not like the way he was talking. It was too cautious. As if he was testing the waters before he continued.
- “My friend, Alpha Edmun and his Luna, want to retire soon. But their son has not found his mate yet.”
Shit! That meant they wanted me to marry him.
- “No. Dad. Please. I beg of you. Don’t make me do this.”- My voice sounded desperate.
- “Sweetheart, they just want to get to know you and keep the possibility of a marriage open.”
- “Is that what they said? Because one thing is for me to go there and be able to decide for myself if I want this marriage, but another if they have set this as a condition for Kristen and I to live with them.”
- “They asked that you be willing to give their son a chance and get to know him during the 8 months that they'll be hosting you.”
- “And after that?”
- “And after that, you either marry him or you have to come back.”- He sighted. I noticed the dark circles that had formed under his eyes, were bigger. Every time Damian conquered a new pack my dad would get more worried. – “Trust me I don’t like this either, but I cannot have you girls stay here. I am confident I can protect our pack, but I rather do it while you and your sister are far from Damian’s reach.”
- “Why can’t we just live among humans? I’ll take care of Kristen while I go to college or something. We do not need anyone’s help.”
- “We do Elisa. It will be safer if you girls stay within a pack. I know the terms are not the friendliest, but I know these people and that’s why I am negotiating with them. There are other packs in Europe, but since I haven’t met their Alphas, I cannot trust them with your wellbeing.”- He stood from his desk and came around to hug me. –“A lot can happen in eight months sweetheart. Their son can’t be that bad. Maybe you’ll like him. But if you don’t, you can always come back home. I will have figured something out by then.”
I have always been my dad’s favorite, so I know that if he is asking something like this from me, it's because there really isn’t another option. He looked seriously at me and said:
- “Elisa, I need you to be strong. Your mother and I have delayed this decision as long as we could. But the war is too close to our home now and soon the time for us to fight will come. I rather you be far away when that happens. Kristen will need you honey. You’ll have to give her all the love your mother and I won’t be able to.”
I wanted to cry and ask him not to do this. But he was right. I had to be strong, not just for me, but for Kristen.
After that, things happened really fast and two weeks later, Kristen and I were on our way to Emerald Pack. My parents told her we were going for an adventure where she would get to live in a palace, so Kristen was kind of excited. I wondered how long was it gonna take for her to start asking about mom. I was not a bad sister, but I was never too involved in raising Kristen. She had nannies to take care of her when my mom was busy. One of them, Erika, was coming with us, but a nannie was not a mom. I knew I would have to step up.
- “Elisa, are you excited to get to the castle?”
- “Yes, I am princess. We will have so much fun together and you will make new friends too.”
- “I hope they are nice.”
- “Me too.”- That was everything I could hope for. At the end of the day, I was leaving my whole life behind and sent to the wolves, literally.
NOTE: Hi! Hope you liked the chapter. Naming them is not my strong suit, so if you have any ideas, please leave them in the comments. I am excited to see what you guys come up with.
