Duel Part IV : Unexpected Variable

[His speed improved again?!] Nyx thought as he dashes out of the way then he stepped on a rock that made him slip.

[What the?!]

Kris appeared in front of him following a punch.

*BAM!*

“KUHAK!”

Nyx groaned in pain as Kris’ fist got buried in his stomach. Kris was ready to throw in another punch to follow up but Nyx regained his awareness of the situation and manage to slip away from Kris’s grasp and escaped a painful beating.

“That was close, I thought I can land in another punch, but it looks like it’s going to be hard to land another one when you recover from the shock huh?” Kris said with an arrogant smile.

[Not so cool now that I manage to hit you where you are weak huh?] Kris thought as he glare at Nyx with a smug in his face.

[Freaking pebble really cost me a pain in the stomach. What rotten luck to have stepped on an unfortunate debris.] Nyx told himself as he wipes the blood that is flowing down his chin.

“Did I see that wrong? Did my eyes deceived me?” a student stood with his eyes widen in shock.

“I never would have thought Kris manage to land a hit on Nyx.”

“Did I just imagined it? Or Nyx really did slipped that’s why Kris landed a punch?”

“Maybe he is really desperate to land a hit that he took every chance he can get, what a lucky bastard.”

The students talk to each other after the shock when Kris landed a punch on Nyx.

“That must have hurt a lot even if it’s Nyx, he should have suffered a few damage with that insane force that guy can do.” Fritz said as sweat break off from his forehead.

Cassiopeia is covering her mouth in shock knowing the strength of Kris like the other girls inside the test grounds.

[It must be hard to move after receiving a direct punch from the guy known for his raw strength. His name is known even to us demi-humans, a human that rivals the physical strength of a demi-human. Kris Reynolds, even from the main families who contributed greatly in subjugation of the demon lord three hundred years ago decided to focus on strengthening his physical abilities instead of his magical abilities.] she thought as she stare at Nyx grasping in pain.

[That was careless of me to slip on the floor.] Nyx thought as he glance at the floor. [Wow, no wonder I slipped.]

The floor had a lot of holes and cracks with Kris’ punches when he dodged them earlier.

[He made cracks and holes on the floor with his fists? Is this guy still human? No wonder I felt my flesh vibrated when I got hit earlier. I can still feel my stomach throbbing in pain after his punch.] he thought as he bit his lips.

[Well, he is one of the successors of the main families. This much trouble is already given from the beginning. I’ll just have to think of a way to deal with him without getting inside his strike zone.] he told himself as he smiled.

“He must have hit his head earlier that made him lose his mind. Look at him he’s smiling.” Caisein said with a disgusted face as he pointed at Nyx.

“Don’t smile like an i***t!” he yelled at Nyx.

“Now, now, Caisein. I think he might have realized something that he overlooked that’s why smiled.” Raven said while stopping Caisein from walking towards the arena.

Everyone went quiet and stare at Caisein with a blank expression.

[That i***t, he really likes to take everyone’s attention.] Nyx thought as he continued to smile.

“You were really generous to let me land a punch, thank you. So are you ready to have another go? Did you have a good brief rest?” Kris said with a smile on his face.

[Huh? What is this guy talking about? It wasn’t intentional, I just happened to slip on the floor.] Nyx thought with a confused expression.

[What’s with his confused expression, did I say something wrong?] Kris ask himself feeling confused as well. “Did I say something wrong?” he asked.

“I think you have misunderstood something. I didn’t do it on purpose, I happened to slip on the debris on the floor.” Nyx explained with a confused expression.

“Huh?” he mumbled in ignorance of what really happened.

Everyone went quiet and stare with blank expressions toward Kris as he felt their gazes that left him flustered.

[He really is just a muscle-brain, an idiot.]

The crowd thought as his friends buried their faces with their palms.

[What the f*ck?! Was I the only one not aware of what really happened?] he thought as he turned to his friends.

His eyes widen as he saw them smiling awkwardly at him suppressing their urge to laugh.

[These f*ckers. I swear I’m going to beat them up later.] he thought as the corners of his lips and eye brows twitch in anger and irritation as he stood there embarrassed of himself.

[He really is an idiot.] Nyx thought as he stare at the embarrassed opponent.

“I had a good rest, thanks for letting me do so. Why don’t we end this faster, don’t you agree?” Nyx said as he extends his hand.

“That, I would like that.” Kris replied with a smile.

[I manage to land a hit even though it made me look like an i***t. It should have weakened him a few levels.] he told himself as he took his stance.

“Eternal Flame”

A heavy pressure engulfed the entire test grounds when Nyx cast a spell. A darker blue flame appeared raging above Nyx’s head.

“What the hell is that flame? I think I can feel the heat from here.” A student cried in surprise.

[Eternal Flame, a flame that never dies out even if submerged into the water. It will continue to burn for eternity if the user wills it. To think that he can cast a high tier spell at his age, he really is something.] Raven thought as he stare in awe.

“A spell that is passed down for generations in their family. I can feel my skin tingle.” Caisein said as he holds his arm.

[What kind of spell is that, I can feel the heat even when I am a little away from him?] Kris told himself as sweat drips from his cheeks. [Can my modified wind manipulation disperse that flame? I know something is hot when the air itself is dancing like crazy.]

The air around Nyx vibrated with the heat that his flame is producing.

[What will you do know? If you get close enough to me I might fry you alive.] Nyx thought as he stare at Kris.

“Weakened my ass, if I get close to that bastard I’m toast.” He whispered to himself. “I guess there’s no helping it since he decided to use his trump card, might as well use mine.” He said as he extended his arm.

“Is he really going to go at that extreme heat?”

“If it was me, I’d rather surrender than be a human toast.”

“He must have a plan right? No one in their right mind would go near to something as dangerous as that.”

The students whispered to each other with concerned faced.

“It this goes out of hand I’m afraid even us instructors need prepared to have a little burn.” An instructor thought as his heart beats a little faster.

“I think our Nyx is taking it seriously now. Since he might get some broken bones if he continues to play carelessly around Kris.” Kai said with his arms crossed.

Nash heard what the other students are talking about and smiled.

[Fools, it is not a matter of he shouldn’t or he should. It’s just that he doesn’t have any choice but to dive right in since he is the one who challenge his current opponent then that only mean that he is confident in his skills.] he told himself as he smiled.

“Durandal, heed my call.” Kris said as a huge great sword appeared in his hands. “It is time for slaughter.” He added with a smiled in his face.

*KABOOOM!*
