The inn turned out to be full, so they were given directions to another, with the promise that it would be just as comfortable.
Yet that inn turned out to be little more than a shack, and was built on stilts set into a putrid bog at the opposite end of town. As the moon was already high, they had no choice but to see if any rooms were available there.
Accessible only by a small bridge that was illuminated every few feet by large lanterns swinging on poles, they approached the shack uneasily. The bridge felt like it sank more with every step they took, but when they looked back, it appeared to be resting lightly on the surface as though they hadn’t crossed it at all. They turned, facing the shack’s front door, and bravely Xanna opened it.
