CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Kai and Jidan said little while they and Xanna journeyed along the undercliffs, even when she tried to make small talk to cheer them up.
The air was peaceful, with a gentle breeze that tickled their skin as it blew, and the sun warmed their backs. Growing out from cracks in the rock, Xanna discovered a fleshy plant that she recognised from Earthias. It was a type of vegetable, known for thickening up stews and soups, but its raw taste left something to be desired. Still, at least she and Kai had food enough to keep their strength up, and Jidan managed to catch himself a few fish from the river, though he was too depressed to take much enjoyment from his meal.
