CHAPTER TWENTY Kai sliced through a large icicle by the doorway. It smashed against the floor, shards skittering in every direction. The sound was like a box of glass beads being upended, echoing throughout the chamber. The giant wolves snapped their heads over to his and Xanna's direction, eyeing them eagerly, and began their advance. Not all of them had taken the bait, however. Two were still facing Jidan, the tension between them so thick that Xanna wasn’t sure who would lash out first. Either way, Jidan didn’t have the strength left in him to put up a good fight. The wolves were uninjured, and powerful as Jidan was, their muscles were far more defined than his.
