Chapter One Zoey's POV "Miss Henry, you're late." My English teacher spoke as I walked into the room. "Mister Hobson, I don't care." I replied, earning a glare. I woke up late, making myself run late for school. When I say woke up late, I mean that I missed all of my classes. Well, expect this one. I was going to skip school the rest of school, but my father commanded me to attend. "Miss Henry, just because you are the future alpha doesn't mean that you can do what you want." He said angrily. "But doesn't it?" I asked with a smirk. Instead of continuing this discussion, he turned back to the board and started teaching again. I pulled out my phone and started playing a game. My phone vibrated in my hand as a notification popped up at the top. Why do you always insist on berating the man? I smirked and turned toward the back of the classroom to look at the sender. My best friend Jasper sat in the back of the room, while I sat in the middle. We had to be separated because we talked too much when we sat near each other. Though it doesn't stop us from texting during the whole period. Because it's fun. I sent back, earning a small chuckle from Jasper. I could've sworn my heart fluttered. Of course my life is like some stupid movie or book. I'm in love with my best friend and have been practically all my life. And of course I don't have the courage to tell him, because there is no way he'd actually feel the same. Class droned on and on, the only thing that was entertaining was texting back and forth with Jasper. "Class dismissed." Mister Hobson said, "Except you Miss Henry." I watched as everyone walked out of the classroom. I stayed at my desk and let Mister Hobson come to me. "Zoey, you have so much potential, why do you waste your smarts and not pay attention in class?" He asked, sitting on top of the desk in front of me. "Because I'm future alpha. Do you know what that means?" I ask him, "I won't be going to college. I will be here. I will be taking care of this pack. I don't need to know science or literature, because it does not pertain to the well being of this pack. I don't need to know about Shakespeare. I don't need to know what chemicals go best together to make a foam volcano. I don't need to know how to solve for x. So I'm not wasting my smarts. I'm focusing it on how to better myself as future Alpha." With that, I stood and made my way out of the class. Mister Hobson didn't stop me, which I wouldn't have cared if he tried. I am the next Alpha and I don't have time to focus on subjects that don't matter. "Zoe, you always have such a way with words." Jasper teased when I stepped out of the classroom. Of course he waited and listened. Unsurprisingly, my two brothers were with him. "I am future Alpha hear me roar." My youngest brother, Zack, teased causing Jasper to laugh loudly. I rolled my eyes at the two fools. My other brother, Zeke, just kept silent as we all walked. Zeke and Zack are my two younger brothers. Though triplets, I was born 7 minutes before Zeke and he 5 before Zack. That's what made me the next Alpha. I was the oldest kid so the title drops down to me. A fact Zeke was not too happy about. I knew he planned on challenging me for the title when we came of age. "Will you two idiots shut up?" Zeke asked grumpily. "Aw, is poor Zekey-poo upset?" I teased making him growl at me. It caused a fit of laughter to go through the rest of us. "Come on, Z. You know we're just playing with you." "Yeah, whatever." Zeke said and walked away with a scowl. "What did you do to my mate now?" Karen asked, walking up to the three of us left. Karen and her older brother, Kyle, moved to our pack when we were all in middle school. I hated her at first, mostly because she is bossy and had to have her way. Which is exactly why she is going to be my Beta. "Zeke is pissy about not being the oldest again." I responded. Zeke and Karen dated all through high school. I was against it at first, though I was a hypocrite at the same time. I dated Kyle once upon a time until I discovered we weren't mates. He was brokenhearted. I was too, for a bit. Wolves can not find their mate until they are 18. When one partner of the mating bond turns 18 that is when they can find their mate, as long as the other party was of puberty age. When Kyle turned 18 the year before, he didn't mate on me like he planned. Karen did, thankfully, discover Zeke was her mate when she turned 18 months ago. "Will you guys stop hounding him about it?" Karen asked with a slight chuckle. "We can't help what order we were pushed out." Zack pointed out. We arrived at my locker, which was next to Zeke's and Zack's. The lockers were assigned in alphabetical order. "Whatever, doofus. You guys have practice, so let's go." Karen said rolling her eyes at my i***t brother. Being at an all werewolf school made sports the best. We only competed against all werewolf teams. So far, we've been undefeated in football this season. That's thanks to my little brothers and best friend. They also have a pretty badass coach. Tommy was the best coach we've had for years. He coaches most of the sports, especially contact sports, he also is a substitute teacher. He is the Beta of the pack as well. Tommy was pretty young to be a beta. Just turned 27, compared to my father's 45. Though he is the youngest beta in our pack history, he's still widely respected. He grew up with my parents. My mom used to babysit Tommy when he was a kid. They were practically best friends, until she was killed at least. He and my father were still pretty close. I was pretty close to Tommy too. He used to babysit my brothers and I. After my mother was killed, he was there for me. He was my shoulder to cry on. Since my father wasn't. My mother was killed by hunters. Humans that have it in their minds that all werewolves are evil and try hunting us down, killing us one by one. I was about twelve and my mother and I went to have a girls day. We were the only women in the house, and we needed time without being surrounded by gross boys. We decided to go on a run, shifting into our wolf forms. We were running around pack borders, when we heard twigs snapping. It put my mom on alert. Flashback- 'Mom?' I asked as she started growling lowly. She stood hunched down looking toward the area where the sound came from. 'Get behind me' Her voice commanded darkly. I followed her command. I was afraid. Was it a rouge wolf coming to hurt us? What came out the tree line was much worse. Hunters. 'Mommy.' I whimpered. I've heard stories about Hunters. They were bad humans. I've never seen one up close before. They walked towards us slowly, weapons pointed. 'Your father is on his way. On my count we run back toward the pack house, okay?' Mom said to me in a soft voice that was still stern. She growled lowly as the Hunters inched closer. 'Run!' She yelled and we both tried to get away. A sharp pain erupted in my stomach, I looked down to see an arrow. I let out a yelp, stopping my mother dead in her tracks. I could see the panic in her eyes. The pain started moving up my body. I let out a painful whimper. Silver, I've heard Hunters use it to kill us. Small amounts can paralyze and cause intense pain. 'Zoey!' Mom yelled, turning back to me. I wish she never did turn back to this day. Because of her saving me, she died. It's my fault she's not here. If I didn't wanna go for a run, she'd still be here. I wasn't the only one to think that, my father never wasted a chance to tell me. "Zoe?" I heard someone say, pulling me out of my thoughts. I turned to see Karen looking at me concerned. The boys were no where to be seen, probably already getting changed for practice. "You okay?" I realized that I had been staring at the inside of my locker for a few minutes. "Yeah, I'm good." I said, faking a smile. Karen looked at me with doubt, she knew better. "You sure?" She asked. "Yeah, let's go watch practice. They got that big game coming up." I closed my locker and headed toward the field. I heard her sigh and follow behind me. When we got to the field, we climbed up the bleachers and watched our star jocks slam into each other. "Hey Zoey." I heard someone yell out. I looked down at the field and see Tommy waving at me. I waved back with a smile. Tommy was a gorgeous man, with a chiseled body, and an amazing personality. I grew up crushing on him hard. Of course if knew nothing would come of it. Not only was he ten years my senior, but I wasn't his mate. Though he was still sadly mateless. "So, your birthday is coming up." Karen pointed out, stating it as if I didn't already know that fact. "Please don't remind me." I groaned. Unlike most werewolves, I dreaded my eighteen birthday. "You're not the least bit excited?" Karen asked. Bumping my shoulder. "The only thing that excites me about my birthday is I'll finally start my official Alpha training." I said. "Oh come on. You're not the least bit excited about the possibility of multi-mates? Multiple men groveling at your feet, catering you, and practically kissing the ground you walk on?" Karen asked, leaning back looking in the distance in wonder, "What I'd give for that." "Don't let my brother hear you say that. He'll go crazy." I said and she laughed. "Yeah you're right. Zeke is a handful as it is." Karen said with a smile, watching her boyfriend tackle someone. "But seriously, why aren't you more excited?" "Karen, I haven't had the best luck in life. Who's to say my love life will be any different?" I pointed out. She knew the stories as well as I did. My gran used to tell us all, before she passed. Hundreds of years ago, my great-something grandmother slept around on her witch mate. He got mad and cursed her and her future bloodline. The first born female of the Henry line was to have multiple mates. Everyone thought it was so fine and dandy, but no one has yet to go through it. Except me. "How are my favorite ladies?" A deep voice asked, coming to sit down. I looked over to see Kyle. "Kyle, always the charmer." I said with a smile. Kyle and I had amicable breakup. We both knew we weren't meant to be when he didn't mate on me. "Why are you that guy?" Karen asked, slightly annoyed. "What guy?" Kyle asked. "The guy who graduated but can't stop hanging out at his old high school?" She asked, making me laugh. "The ladies here love me." He smirked. "Gross. That was borderline pedophilic." I said, causing him to attack me. He started tickling me, making me squeal. A football flew past me to hit him in the head. The three of us looked down to see Jasper. "You're distracting our favorite cheerleaders." He said with a smug little smile. Karen and I put our hands over our mouths to stifle our laughs. Jasper and Kyle never liked each other. I never knew why. Jasper didn't think he was good for me and Kyle just didn't like Jasper. Karen thought it was because Jasper was jealous. As much I wanted to believe that, I knew Jasper was just being a protective friend and didn't wanna see me get hurt. "I'll see you guys later. Just wanted to stop by on my way to train." Kyle said, glaring at the brunette boy. Kyle was training to be a pack warrior, he always had a knack for fighting. I was proud he found his calling. Karen and I sat there chatting until practice was over. We went down on the field to meet up with Jasper, my brothers and Tommy. "So, are you guys having a big birthday bash?" Tommy asked. Our birthday was Monday. Our father wanted to celebrate the fact that his sons were turning eighteen. I was being celebrated too, not because he cared or wanted me too. It was all for show. "The Saturday after our birthday." Zack said with a big grin. Zack loved parties. He was our outgoing, slutty brother that would party whenever possible. Hopefully he can find a mate to calm him down. "Maybe you'll be able to bring dates, if you know what I mean." Tommy said wiggling his eyebrows. "Well, I already got mine. Jasper's got his. That just leaves my two lonely siblings. You can always come together as a pity date." Zeke said with a smirk, his arm around Karen. I gave a fake smile to him, showing my annoyance. "You're funny Zekey, but if anything, Karen is my date." I said pulling my best friend out of his arms into mine. I laughed at his sour expression. "Speaking of date's, I got to go." Jasper said, taking off back toward the locker room. Sadly, Jasper had a girlfriend. I hated her, not just because they were dating. She wasn't loyal. She slept around, a fair amount. Jasper wouldn't believe us when we told him. Since neither of them had reached mating age, I prayed she wasn't his mate. "Why bring a date when all the ladies will flock to me anyway?" Zack asked with a smirk, making my eyes snap away from Jasper's retreating body. "Okay, I'm heading out. See you guys later." I said, ignoring my brother. I needed to head to my training. It's not official training or anything. It's just me, working on my technique in and out of wolf form. "See you back at the house Zoe." Tommy said pulling me into a hug. I hugged him back and bid farewell to everyone. ————————— First chapter of my first original story. I hope anyone who has previously read what I had published likes the changes.
