Chapter Ten

Chapter Ten Zoey's POV I was defeated. I was emotionally drained. I couldn't handle too much more tonight. I started my journey home, planning on walking the whole way when I got a call from Zeke. "Hey big sis. You might wanna get back here, Dad is on a rampage looking for you." Zeke said when I answered the phone. Of course he is. "I had to step away to deal with something, on my way back." I said. It's always something with this man. As soon as I made my way back to the building, my father was in my face. "As future Alpha, I expect more from you than ditching a party in your honor." He whisper-yelled to the best of his ability. I scoffed. "Please, the only reason I'm here is because I happen to share a birthday with Zeke and Zack." I said back, not bothering to drop my volume. "You're future alpha, you have responsibilities." He said. "Oh please." I scoffed louder. "Keep your voice down." He growled out. "Why afraid the rest of the pack would find out how you treat me?" I asked him crossing my arms. "I have no idea what you're talking about." He said, forcing a smile on his face. He spoke through his teeth. I could see in his eyes he was angry. I was tired of this s**t. I was definitely tired of his s**t. I scoffed loudly again, starting to draw attention from our noisy pack members, but I no longer cared. "Oh, don't act like that. You've treated me like scum ever since mom died. I know you blame me." I said, my voice starting to raise. "Oh course I do! It's your fault she's dead!" He yelled, finally losing his clam demeanor. "You think I don't know that? It's not like you ever give me a chance to forget it! Maybe it's your fault too! Maybe if you would've gotten there quicker, then-" He cut me off. "If you never would've went there in the first place, she'd still be here! I wish it were you and not her!" He yelled, his voice practically at a roar. "Yeah, me too! Then I would've have to deal with you!" I yelled back. Everything was dead quiet so the sound of him backhanding me echoed. I fell to the ground, holding my cheek in shock. No matter what he has said to me, he's never laid a hand on me. He even looked shocked himself as his anger started to dwindle down. I stood up, tears welling in my eyes. "Zoey, I'm so sor-" I cut him off, not letting him finish his apology. "You know, she'd be disgusted if she were here to see you today. Absolutely disgusted." I said, my voice barely a whisper. With that, I ran from the ballroom as quickly as I could. I could hear my brothers yelling for me, but their voice soon faded as I outran them. I ran, breaking my heels in the process. It didn't stop me though. I ran until I couldn't run anymore. I didn't have a place in mind. I ran until I collapsed and started sobbing. When I calmed enough to stop crying, I finally paid attention to where I was. The field. The one field I promised myself I'd never go back to. The field where my mom was killed. I laid on my back, looking up at the stars. Maybe if I'm lucky, a hunter will come into the field and put me out of my misery. As if the Moon Goddess was actually listening, and granting my wish. I heard someone walk, not so quietly into the field. I didn't even move my head to look at them. I knew it was a human by scent. That meant one thing. Hunter. Only hunters travel this far from regular civilization. "Oh, great. Just what I needed." I said not taking my eyes away from the stars. "Don't think about making any quick movements." The hunter said. I could hear him slowly walking closer to me. "Yeah, Yeah. Whatever." I said. "I'll do it." He said, c*****g a gun. One that I'm sure was full of silver bullets. "Cool." I responded. "I'm not afraid." He confessed. Though I could practically smell the fear coming off of him. "Do it then." I responded. "What?" He asked, confused. "Shoot me then, what are you waiting for?" I asked, sitting up. He was getting pretty close. A few more feet and he could put the barrel to my head. I had my back facing him "Maybe, you'll feel better if I'm not looking at you." "I don't have any sympathy for your kind." He said, his voice gruff. "One of your kind killed my father. In front of my eyes." "We have that in common then." I said. "One of your kind killed my mother right in front of mine." He could hear his heart beat pumping faster. "Right here in this field is where my father died. I come here every night, hoping to get my revenge." He said, anger in his voice. "Then take it." I said, it taking me a second to process what he had said. "Wait, in this field?" "Right here. The beast ripped him to shreds. Not before he was able to fatally wound it. Would've killed the small beast with it but then too many showed up." He said, some pride in his voice. I moved before he could even blink. I removed the gun from his hand and tackled him in anger. I was gonna kill him. "You killed my mother!" I yelled in his face. That's when it hit me, hard. Mate. No, no f*****g way. This couldn't be happening to me. I shook my head and moved away. I slowly back away. No! He was responsible for my mother's death. He couldn't be my mate. There was no denying the tingles I felt when my skin brushed his. I shook my head again and took off. This could not be happening. ————————— Goddamn. I honestly didn't know that was gonna happen until I wrote it. I AM SHOOK! Shooketh! Life is just b***h slapping Zoey all over the place.
