chapter 3: betrayal

“We just received word that the treasury for the council was stolen by a group of young men. There were no survivors. All soliders were killed.” “Thank you General. Make sure the bodies are identified by their families and they are given a proper burial. Please excuse us.” As the general left the council, there was silence for a few minutes before Linda forced herself to speak. “I can't be the only person in this room who thinks this was done by someone amongst us. No one else, not even the soliders knew that the treasury was to come in today. So what is this about an attack? Everything was stolen. How is that even possible? “Even if you ask those questions from now till tomorrow Linda, the culprit won't speak up. All we can do is pray that the gods let this madness end.” Linda remained silent after that but still couldn't help but wonder why someone would do such a thing. The money was supposed to be used to build a temple for Zeus as the former one was getting old and the people were complaining. Everyone in the council knew that but still one of them had betrayed them. Meanwhile, Conor and his secret followers had gotten the treasury and had paid off the young men and sent them on their way. But Conor had other plans. He asked the General to send some soliders after the young men and kill them to make sure they were no loose ends. The general had betrayed the council by telling Conor about the treasury. He also believed that Conor would change Greece and the rest of the world with his designs. “Conor, now that we have the money in our possession, what is the next plan of action?” “You’re going on a quest my dearest General. I need you to find a dark witch by the side of the mountain. She possess the green gem which could bring my drawings to life. But she won't give it up for free. Go to her, tell her we have the money. She'll come down with you. In the meantime wear this necklace, it will protect you from her dangerous protection spells. She has a habit of killing both men and animals for fun. Talk to her with caution.” With those words, the general put on his necklace and immediately left to begin with his quest. He didn't intend to let Conor down. Just as instructed he was able to find the witch and bring her back to Conor safely. Conor was very pleased and after greeting the witch, he began to tell her what he wanted. “This is exactly what I expected from a mad man like you Conor. You do realize that this gem will change you drastically. It isn't about powering your drawings . Are you sure about this?” “Of course I'm sure. We have the money if that is what you're worried about. Just cast the spell and be on your way. It's time to change everything . I'm sick and tired of being ruled by weak and useless leaders who can't see the way forward are my drawings.” “If you say so Conor. I do hope the gods have mercy on you after this.” With that said, the witch cast her spell and gave the gem to Conor. “I’ve given you full control of the gem and it's Powers. Use it wisely.” She then vanished taking the gold coins with her and leaving Conor to his fate. “Well then gentlemen, I believe we have a world to rule.”
