Done deal

Brandon's pov

"What?" I asked in shock.

"You heard me, let's get married, or better still pretend to be. That's the only way they'll let us be" the lady in front of me said.

I burst into a fit of laughter because I couldn't believe she'd suggest that.

"you've got to be joking right? I mean it was just a one night stand you don't need to make a big issue out of it" I said earning an eye roll from her.

"you can quit flattering yourself. Do you have a better idea smart ass?" she asked me.

"look it's just for a year, at least until this whole issue dies down" she continued. "in as much as I hate this, I've no other choice".

"you don't really think I'd fall for this cheap trick do you?" I asked

"first of all, you seduced me into dancing with you so that the paparazzi you paid will take pictures of us? You must have come up with this brilliant idea just to be close to me. Tell me, what exactly do you want?" I asked feeling irritated.

"are you f**king kidding me right now? you think I wanted any of this to happen? I just found out that my boyfriend was cheating on me with my best friend and I needed to blow off some steam, that was the reason I was at the bar in the first place. And you must be so full of yourself to think I even want to be with an a**hole like you for any reason at all" she was blowing hot and I must say I admired her. No woman has ever talked to me like that before, they all drool over me, can't say I blame them I mean I've got the looks, you know what I mean.

"listen angry lady, you better keep your voice down, I don't think you need to be using that tone on me since you practically need my help to solve your problems. I've got nothing to lose if I decide not to play along, after all my face wasn't captured" I said trying to act cool.

I was taken aback when she burst out laughing.

" you think you've got nothing to lose? well wait till I grant the interview. Your face will be all over the internet and all the media houses and papers, oh i wonder what the headlines will be. "famous Brandon Couper involved in a scandal". "the world renowned basketball player is a flirt". I could go on and on about the possible headlines you'd see. Of course it'd be resolved, but what happens before it is finally resolved? will your career remain the same or your company you came back to take care of? What if it didn't get resolved at all? she was smiling mischievously.

"are you threatening me?" I asked feeling my temper rising. She couldn't possibly be thinking of defaming me. But what if she isn't bluffing?

"oh I'm not threatening you, just stating the obvious. We can do this the easy way by going to the interview together and setting the record straight, or the hard way which will ruin both our careers" she said.

I never thought I'd ever be in such position, to choose between my career and my life. Who am I kidding? my career is my life, that's the reason I've been away for so long. Yeah I came back because we have a huge match ahead of us, competing with the Panthers for the finals next month is no small fit and I can't afford to jeopardize that for any reason, I've worked so hard for it.

"fine" I hear myself say "if we're doing this then it'd be on my terms" can't believe I just said that.

"and what might your terms be if I may ask?" she asked

"it's quite simple" I started " you don't interfere with my work and personal life, we'd keep the paparazzi out of our affairs, we'd have a low key wedding with only both our parents and families, no friends involved, we'd keep the deal away from our parents, they don't need to know anything" do you understand?"

"is that all?"

"yes, for now, I'd let you know when another one comes up"

"if the same rules apply to you then it's a deal" " but if we have a low key wedding because we don't want people to know, we'll still announce it to the press and people will still know".

"don't act so smart, of course I know that, we'd surprise them." I said feeling unsure of everything.

"one more thing" she started " no form of relationship during the period of our contract, we'd be the perfect couple outside"

"deal" I said sighing.

"deal" she replied

" now we need to break the news to our parents"

Meanwhile in the living room where the two families were busy talking.

"thank you for a wonderful dinner Mira, it was awesome" Mrs Couper said.

" And thank you for gracing us with your presence Eva" Mira said

" Brandon is looking more handsome than the last time we saw him Eva"

"Yeah he is, so is Natasha. it's so good to have them both together catching up" said Eva

"Yeah it's been long they last saw each other, I mean they were kids when they got separated, they couldn't stay away from each other back then, hope they're catching up real good" Mira said smiling

"women and match making" Mr Smith said and everyone burst out laughing.

"And here they come. Wait, are they holding hands?" Mr Couper whispered to the others.

Natasha and Brandon walked into the living room giggling like small kids who just found their missing toys. Of course they've planned out their actions and probably also the results.

"who do we have here?" Mira was the first person to speak smiling from ear to ear.

"I see you both have missed each other so much that you can't seem to get enough of each other" Eva said.

"I'm happy seeing the two of you like this, you don't know how long I've waited and wanted for this to happen" Mira said

"mom" Tasha said beckoning her mom to keep quiet and also feeling a pang of guilt wash over her, after all this was just a charade.

"Mom, dad, we've got a bit of good news" Brandon started

"oh wow, good news? What could it be my son?" Mr Couper asked

"well you all know how much I and Natasha loved each other back when we were kids and how we can't seem to get apart from each other"

"yes?" Eva couldn't wait for her son to finish.

"After talking with her this past few hours, I realized that I still love her and want to be with her and I believe she has the same feelings for me" he paused looking at Tasha for any sign of regret. He got none but rather a smile, obviously faked and a nod off encouragement for him to continue.

"we've decided to take our relationship to another level" he continued

" we are getting married".
