Ava's eyes locked onto Elijah's, searching for answers to the questions swirling in her mind. She took a step forward, her bare feet making barely a sound on the wooden floor. The moonlight streaming through the window cast eerie shadows on Elijah's face, making his features seem even more chiseled and mysterious. "What do you mean you've been looking for me?" Ava asked, her voice firm but laced with a hint of wariness. She hadn't seen Elijah in years, and his sudden reappearance in her life raised all sorts of red flags. Elijah's gaze never wavered, his eyes burning with an intensity that made Ava's skin prickle. "I've been watching over you from afar," he said, his voice low and smooth. "You've grown into a powerful werewolf, Ava. Stronger than I ever could have imagined." Ava's cheeks flushed at the praise, despite herself. She didn't want to be reminded of the connection she and Elijah had shared in the past. It was a connection that went deeper than friendship, deeper than family. But that was a lifetime ago. "Why now?" Ava demanded, her voice sharper than she intended. "Why after all these years do you suddenly show up and claim you've been watching over me?" Elijah's expression turned somber, his eyes clouding over like a stormy sky. "The Devourer is rising," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's an ancient evil that threatens to destroy everything we hold dear. I've been searching for you because I need your help." Ava's instincts went on high alert, her senses tingling with unease. The Devourer? She'd heard stories about it, whispers of a monstrous entity that fed on fear and destruction. But she'd never thought it was real. "What makes you think I'd be interested in helping you?" Ava asked, her voice laced with skepticism. "You've been gone for years, Elijah. You've got no claim on me." Elijah's gaze locked onto hers, his eyes burning with a fierce determination. "Because, Ava, you're the only one who can help me stop it. You're the key to unlocking the secrets of the Blood Moon Artifact, and together, we can defeat the Devourer and save our world." Ava's mind reeled as she processed Elijah's words. The Blood Moon Artifact? She'd heard stories about it, too. It was said to hold the power of the gods, but at a terrible cost. As she looked into Elijah's eyes, Ava knew she had a choice to make. She could walk away, leave Elijah and his problems behind. Or she could take a chance, join forces with him, and face whatever dangers lay ahead. But as she opened her mouth to respond, a loud growl echoed outside, followed by the sound of breaking glass. Ava's heart skipped a beat as she realized they were under attack.
